Does ATI 2014 Premium back up open files or not?

Thread needs solution

Amazingly, Acronis has not provided a straight answer to this question anywhere on their website or in the ATI documentation, or if they do, it's very hard to find.

The question is simple: on Windows XP and Windows 7, how does ATI 2014 Premium handle open and locked files? What does it do in files/folders backup mode and is that different from what it does in disk/partition imaging mode? Does ATI rely on Windows volume shadow copy or is it something else? Thanks.

Does anybody know about this? From what I can gather, some pre-2014 editions of ATI have had the capability to backup open files, but there have also been many editions that have not had the capability. It's kind of important, and pretty baffling that Acronis isn't clear on this point for ATI 2014.

I'm not a registered user of the software because I'm evaluating different backup programs before purchasing, so apparently this forum is the only way to ask questions about the product. Thanks for any help anybody can give.

Andy,
Your question can only be answered by Acronis but do remember.

The snapshot or backup that the program performs is a collection of used disk sectors.
When restoring these same used disk sectors are restored.
The backup & recovery program does not work at file level.

I am a user, not a technician so don't consider my answer as definitive.

Thanks for your reply. I thought that "File backup" mode was distinct from the sector by sector method that you can use in "Disk and partition backup" mode. In either case, it would be interesting to know how ATI handles open and locked files though.

Please, can somebody from Acronis answer this simple question? Is there a better way to get an answer from them than posting on forums like this?
