TI 2013 hangs Trying to delete backup
I just installed a new 2013 (not upgrade) straight off the download, didn't uninstall 2012 or anything. Things seemed to be ok, 2012 has disappeared but it kept my backup configurations, etc. I was hoping to get better backup names etc. with 2013.
The backup names do seem improved but some things are weird looking. I am wondering if I should have done a cleanup or something first. I created a job to back up my C drive, and it says it has 18 versions when there is only one.
Earlier I was trying to delete version by clicking on the gear at the right of the job and selecting 'delete'. No matter what job, it ALWAYS hangs. If I use task manager to abort the job, task manager tells me that the software is waiting on my to respond to something - but there is no screen response question, etc.
Would greatly appreciate if someone could tell me if I need to do some sort of cleanup and reinstall, if there is a fix for the hang, etc. Thanks.

Pamela,
Move your existing TIB files to another folder for safekeeping on the same disk (to avoid a long file copy). Right click on the folder you move them to, choose properties, and hide the folder for the time being.
Uninstall 2013, and use the cleanup tool found here.
Pay extra attention to the instructions. Do not let the utility reboot your computer. COmplete the last 2 checks before you reboot.
Reboot and reinstall 2013.
In the backup list, click on the double gear menu in left of the search box, and turn off the scanning for archives. A grey check mark will remain after you have done that. A black check mark means it is still on.
Set up new backup tasks.
At any point after that, feel free to unhide the folder where you moved your OLD TIB files.

Thank you for your response. I hid my backups, uninstalled 2013, and performed the cleanup steps using the http://kb.acronis.com/content/34876 tool, including checking the registry to make sure the specified entries were gone (they were). Then reinstalled 2013.
I could not find a backup list with a double gear menu in the left of the search box. Perhaps since the machine had hidden the backups, it wasn't there - or was there somewhere else I should have been looking? I did find a grayed out double gear box on the first page, and the screen said there were no backups.
I set up new backups, and just for less confusion gave the job different names than I was using before. I am hoping this will straighten out all my problems, which got even weirder since I posted above (backups were ending up in the wrong folders, showing on the wrong recover file screens, etc.).
Let me know if you think I've followed what you instructed me sufficiently. And in particular is there somewhere I need to set to not scan for archived backups.
I suspect the cleanup is going to do the job - but with me hope does always spring eternal, LOL. Thanks so much for your help. Starting again with great hopes of a clean process!!

See attached for the option. Uncheck "search backup at startup".

A further note of thanks. I have now executed all my backups on and off site, deleted jobs, etc. with no hangs and nothing unexpected. It was a mess before! Acronis really ought to provide more instructions about installing a new release. I would have abandoned Acronis if it hadn't been for the help available here, and lots of people may not discover the expertise here.
Thank you Pat L for taking the time to provide your expertise to keep me in business. You are much appreciated!!

I see the same thing. I've discovered that if you consolidate early versions that you want to delete, it will delete faster. It takes less time to consolidate and delete than to delete.

djjames & Pamela,
Set up your tasks so the program will do the housekeeping for you and without causing delay issues. Set you tasks up to keep a revolving number of chains. Click on link #2 below and look at the examples of 11-Full; or 11-Inc; or 11-Dif. You can adjust the number to fit your needs. This link #2 covers many of the options available in 2013 as well as 2012.
A working example of 11-Inc

I'm having the same issue with hang on Deleting Backups. Is there another way to remedy this as I'm reluctant to uninstall TI. The last time I got into a tangle with TI saying the key was already in use on another machine and it took quite some time to resolve. Is there an XML file I can edit to make TI think the files have been deleted or better yet the job no longer exists?
Thanks for any help with this.

You can change the scheduler on the problem task to "Do not schedule".

Or, you can use the option to Remove single task from backup list.

Reading these posts, it seems to me that this problem should have been solved a long time ago. Why all the difficulty in deleting backups??? And the solution is so convoluted, I refuse to mess with it. Very disappointing, Acronis!

I gave up on this and just go to the hard disk and erase old backups. Acronis will say some versions aren't there, but I just click away and eventually it finds what is there. Not elegant for sure, but the only thing that works for me. I have other small weird problems - lately it is not posting the logs in a timely manner. I know the backup has run as I get an email showing the details and see the backujp on the disk itself, but in Acronis it doesn't show up in the log. Maybe later it will, maybe not. And in December Acronis just quit running backups from Dec. 25th on - I had to force them to run. As long as I stay aware that backups are supposed to run every day, etc. things work ok, but I cannot really depend on completely walking away and feeling 100% confident everything is going well. I do restore to a spare hard disk regularly for emergencies and that works ok.

Thanks for the reply. As I said in a previous post, I'm really disappointed that this problem has been happening, according to old posts, since the 2011 version. Certainly doesn't induce me to trust my backups to Acronis. Guess I'll have to keep using Retrospect and use Acronis as a "backup backup". I do like the Clone feature which, in some aspects, is a better "backup" because you don't have to worry about having problems with the restore. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to automate the procedure and just have to depend on remembering to do it frequently. Sounds like you may be like me; kind of a fanatic about backups...
