Newbie help - Disk Cloning - copies file so.k. but won't boot
Hi,
I have a HP 3500 Tower PC with a single 500GB Hitachi Drive. running Windows 7.
I have cloned this disk using Acronis True image to a Western Digital "Black Label" Disk - also 500GB size.
I did this via the standalone DVD boot version of the software. The WD drive is connected to the system via a cradle that converts SATA to USB.
After the cloning has completed successfully I re-boot on the existing Hitachi drive I can see the WD disk drive window files/folders perfectly cloned on the second disk via the USB port.
But when I disconnect the Hitachi drive and put the WD in its place the system won't boot. I get an error message saying no boot disk has been detected. I tried this via Acronis Automatic and a second try via the manual settings. Same problem.
I guess there is something basic I am doing wrong here but I'm not sure what it is.
Any tips or guidance would be most appreicated
Thank you

Hi,
Thank you for your very fast reply.
Heres what I did in more detail.
Round 1.
Boot up on Acronis bootable DVD and source in original position and target in USB cradle.
Cloned from Source to Target using automatic settings.
Message Cloned successfully.
Re-booted from source drive and windows can see the files on the target via "My computer"
Shut down system.
Removed source disk and plug in target - there is only one set of SATA connectors to use.
Try to Boot up on cloned disk
Error no boot disk found.
Reinstall Source disk and boot no problem.
Round 2.
Boot up on Acronis bootable DVD and source in original position and target in USB cradle.
Cloned from Source to Target using manual settings but didnt change any of the settings. In effect i just wanted to see what was being offered.
Message Cloned successfully.
Shut down system.
Note this time I did not bring up windows on source disk as per 1.
Removed source disk and plugged in target as before
Try to Boot up on cloned disk
Same Error - no boot disk found.
I guess I did something wrong here but cant fathom it.
Thank you
Since writing this I have just put the target disk into another PC and still get the no boot disk found message.
So "it appears" that acronis is not writing or putting down the bootable data needed??

GA,
You need to reverse the order of your disks, source disk to external USB cradle, target in machine, perform clone from source to target, disconnect source and boot from target ie. new drive. See link below:
