True Image 2014 backing up via a USB 3.0 port

Thread needs solution

I have been using TI 2014 to back up data to a WD Passport external drive. This drive has a USB 3.0 connection, but I have been using it successfully connected to a USB 2.0 port. I have now got a new system with USB 3.0 ports. When I try to backup to the USB 3.0 port I find that I get multiple requests to open the WD Passport drive. When I switch back to using the drive in a USB 2.0 port there are no problems. Can someone explain what is happening here? Transferring files from the computer to the WD Passport drive with it connected to the USB 3.0 port works OK, but not when I am using TI 2014.

Many Thanks.

I have a 1TB USB 3.0 Passport myself but I haven't tried using TI 2014 to backup to it. Does your motherboard have an Intel Chipset? Are you running Windows 8.1 or are you running Windows 7? If Windows 7, have you downloaded the most recent USB 3.0 drivers from Intel's site?

You might need to upgrade your USB connecting cable. Not all cables are created equal and a low quality cable or one not rated for the higher bandwidth requirements of USB 3.0 may not work.

Sounds like TI is very, very fussy about the port used for that backup.
Can you edit the task and try resetting the destination when the external drive is plugged into the USB 3.0 port and see if that will correct the stupidity?

Having tried once again to copy a simple file from the system to the drive, the drive "appeared" to fail and the system could not read it at all. After laying the drive aside for an hour, it appeared to "recover" and continued to work OK using the USB 2.0 port. For the moment it is probably best to leave it as it is.

For those of you who answered my query, I am using a new system which I have just finished building. The motherboard has an Intel chipset and I have loaded Microsoft Windows 7 Pro as operating system. For ease of access, I have connected one 2 metre USB 3.0 extension cable to the rear USB 3.0 port.

Thanks

Barry,

You might try uninstalling and then reinstalling the driver for USB 3.0 using Device Manager. Sometimes drivers on a new build especially can be finicky.
