Backup Protection Options

Thread needs solution

I like to use encryption and employ a password on all backups. I see the protection options when creating a backup task, but when editing an existing backup task I don't see any protection options listed. I recall being able to access protection options for an existing task on TI 2010. Is there any way to change or at least review the protection options for an existing backup task with TI 2014 (Build 6673)?

The encryption option is available only when you create a new backup. You cannot turn encryption on after the backup task has been executed once unencrypted.

Thanks for the reply Pat. I can understand your comment with respect to a specific instance of a backup file. But in TI 2010 I can pull up a backup task and access the archive protection settings i.e. change the password, turn encryption on/off, or change the encryption level. Then create a new backup file with the altered task settings.

However based on what testing I have done so far with TI 2014, for an existing backup task I don't see a way to modify or even view such settings. So if I wanted to change protection settings (or even to be 100% sure of the existing protection settings) in an existing backup task it sounds like I would really need to create a new backup task. Hopefully I am missing something as this seems like a small step backwards in functionality.

Yep, big differences between 2010 and 2014.
