How to re-create backups after reinstallation of Windows?
Hi,
I have my backups on a NAS and have noticed that when I re-installed Windows I had to re-do all the backups. I found the backup files no problem but for some reason it didnt create an incremental backup. Instead it created a full backup.
Any ideas why?

I'm not entirely sure I understand what you are saying. Are you saying that because I re-installed Windows the hdd identity has changed. Am I not able to use the original backups after I have installed Windows then?

My understanding your question related to why a full when an inc backup expected. My response was that Acronis noticed a difference of specs when the task was run so the change produced a full instead. TrueImage tracks several disk specs of both source and target as part of the task creation.
Any of your backups, when restored, will produce a system the same as it was at time the backup was created.
All old will be replaced by that from the backup as it is being restored.

Thank you for your reply and I understand what you are saying now. The only thing is my backups are not of my OS they are of files such as music, movies etc. Does the same apply?

There are essentially 3 types of restores which can be accomplished from a TI Backup.
First is the "disk option" restore which can be done if the original backup was a disk option backup.
This type restores replaces everything on the disk with the contents of the backup.
Second is the "partition" type restore. This can be done from either a "disk option" backup or a partition backup of single or multiple partitions. This type restore repaces everything inside the specific partitions being restored.
Third is the "Files/Folders" type restore. This restore is at the file level. When restoring the files, if the files pre-exists, the restore will overwrite the existing file. If the file being restored does not exist, it will be added to the folder/location specified by the user during the restore.
During the restore, it is the options selected by the user during the restore which determines which type restore is performed.
Next is a link about restoring single files. Additional help in restoring disks or partitions found in signature link 3 below.
