Bootable Acronis Doesn't recognize 40Gb HDD-Do you know why ?
Hi ,
I've got an image with Acronis true image Bootable from Entire 80 GB HDD which contains Debian OS. Now I need to recover a 40 GB IDE Hard Disk with that image but unfortunately when the bootable Acronis comes up,it doesnt recognize 40 GB ide hard disk,so it's not possible to make that recovery.
Does anybody have any idea about this issue? your comments and solutions would be appreciated.
Thank You

Run chkdsk command on the 40GB disk to check for errors. If errors are found those need to be corrected before the disk is usable.

I've searched a lot and working with true image.when you connect the 40 Gb IDE hard drive and want to make an image from whole hard disk ,the software doesn't recognize the hard drive,so you can't see the hard drive, but if you want to make backup from some files ,The 40 GB hard drive recognized as "SUPER Floppy disk!!" .so you can make that backup.
I think this issuem is related to the software rather than Hard Disk because I've checked with several different Disks.I wonder how to discuss this issue with Acronis experts .
Thanks for your attention.

It is I think obvious that this drive is a PATA IDE drive given the fact that it reports itself as a Super Floppy drive. I am not certain here but I would bet that your IDE channel is run by an onboard controller. You should be able to adjust disk modes for that controller in the bios. I would say that the default setting is standard IDE. Try if possible setting this to EIDE or Enhanced IDE mode as this may enable the drive to properly report itself via SMART and in turn operate and be recognized by the system correctly.

I have two system, one with ASUS P5K SE mainboard socket LGA 775 and the other one GIGABYTE 8I848 mainboard socket LGA 447 .I checked BIOS settings in both of them , but there wasn't any option to let that modification.
Thanks again for your attention.

The size disparity between the two disks may be involved here. is it possible for you to use a partitioning tool and reduce the partition size on the 80GB disk to less than 40 and then you may be able to take a new backup and restore the smaller poartiton onto the 40.
