Can't restore backup image

Thread needs solution

True Image 2013 w/ plus pack on Win7. 1TB SATA data drive died. It has a two partition whole disk backup. When I try to restore this backup image in whole disk mode to a replacement 1TB HD, as soon as it finishes it's initial analysis a pop-up error message of "Operation has failed" appears. No reason why is given. Is there a log where more information can be found?

You might try using the Tools menu 'add new disk" option so the new disk is properly recongnized. Thye disk should be unallocated without partitions.

You might also use the option "validate before restoring" option.
Do be sure and checkmark the option "recovery disk signature" found on the same screen where the target disk is selected.

I deleted the existing partition and used Acronis to add new disk, which creates a new partition. As it's writing the new partition, a dialog box pops up saying"Disk Adding has Failed. See the log for details."
I found the log. It says the clearing operations completed successfully. Then the error message there is, "Failed to prepare operations. Error code: 8 'Partition is not found'".

The earlier log message associated with the recovery attempt is, "Failed to prepare operations. Error code: 7 'Disk is not found, please check that all the hard disks are attached to your computer.'"
The source and destination drives are fully accessible from Windows. The destination replacement HD, a Samsung, works fine. In Windows I can read and write to it without any problems. It is selectable in Acronis.

Started over. Ensured there was no partition, restarted Acronis this time, and went through the add new disk process. This time it created a new partition. Went back to the recovery options and it's now writing to the new drive. I don't know why Acronis has to be so difficult to perform the most basic tasks but it seems to be finally working. Hopefully all will come out well. Thanks.
