Upgrade procedure: True Image 2009 to 2010

Thread needs solution

Hi Everyone,

Please point me in the right direction here; I’ve searched high and low but cannot find the “True Image Home upgrade procedure”. (I like to know roughly “how” something is supposed to work - before actually doing it!)

- Do you install 2010 on top of 2009.
- Does 2009 need to be uninstalled first?
- Are there any known issues with True Image if later upgrading my OS from Vista to Windows7 (32-bit)?

Thanks for any assistance,

Organdude

Hello Organdude,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to give you a clear explanation.

We recommend you to completely uninstall Acronis True Image Home 2009 before installing Acronis True Image Home 2010 Upgrade, though this is optional. Upgrade version is a full package and it doesn’t require previous version to be installed. You will have to provide two serial numbers while installing the upgrade, one for previous version and one for the upgrade.

There is actually one common issue concerning “Mounting an Acronis True Image Home Image Fails after Upgrading Windows Vista to Windows 7” Here is a description of the issue and resolution:

  1. You have Acronis True Image Home installed on Windows Vista;
  2. You create an image backup using Acronis True Image Home;
  3. You upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7;
  4. After upgrading you select the image to mount, but the following message interrupts the operation:

  5. You click OK and pass through all steps of the Mount wizard. You click Proceed in the Summary window and start the mount task. The Mount operation ends with an error:

This will repair the installation and you will be able to successfully mount an image.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Hey Dmitry,

Thanks so much for the heads up on that! I’m not so happy about the bug, but it’s good to know that someone from Acronis took the time to respond to my query and at least acknowledges that there is an issue.

It looks like I’m going to hold off on the OS upgrade for now, and in turn the Acronis upgrade.

Is there any chance that the TI 2010 problems will be remedied in a future build?

Thanks,

Organdude

So wie Euer ATIH2010 (build 5055/6053) auf Windows 7, 32 Bit-Version, läuft, so wunderbar ist auch Euer
Forum/Support.

Organdude, I was previously using ATI 2009 under Windows 7 and could not mount an image, but I could still browse it and extract any file or folder I wanted.

I suspect this will also be the case with Windows 7 and ATI 2010 and your Vista created ATI backups.

I now have ATI 2010 an mount works correctly with backup images I've created with 2010 under Windows 7.

Ztruker: Thanks, for your feedback!

Hans: Previously, you were having some problems, are they now resolved?
Früher waren es einige Probleme haben, sind sie jetzt gelöst? Sorry, aber meine schriftliche Deutsch, und gesprochen, ist wirklich schlecht.

I’m going to stay with Vista for at least a few more months, maybe until the first major service pack is released, so what would be the right TI 2010 upgrade strategy?

Would it make any sense to upgrade to TI 2010 immediately, before upgrading to WIN 7?

Cheers / Grüße,

Organdude

It made sense to me to "upgrade" to 2010 because it solved the problem I had in being unable to mount images in 2009.

Since then, ATI has come out with updates to the 2010 version, so if you're not troubled by the mount-failure problem in 2009, and in no hurry to upgrade, there's likely to be an even newer version of 2010 out in a few months -- but I'm only guessing based on past experience.
