Cannot find source partition with path '\local\hd_sign(66FF5BB1)'.

Thread needs solution

Was notified a few days ago that there was a new update to my 2014 installation which has been running now for several months without errors.

This morning... backup fails...

Cannot find source partition with path '\local\hd_sign(66FF5BB1)'.

I did a repair and it still fails.

The suggestion is to rebuild the backup task, REALLY? What about the data that I already have backed up. What if I need to restore something from those?

Not to mention how long it took me to finally get a schedule and backup method that works with the archive drive I am backing up to.

Is there some other way to fix this?

How and what did you do as a repair? The app is saying that it cannot access the Source partition because there is either a duplicate or incorrect drive signature for the disk.

As long as you do not delete the tib backup files, these are available for a restore--should you have a need. The stopping the use of the single task and starting a new task does not effect the existence of these backups.

One quick way of creating the beginnings of a new task is to use the task clone option. After its creation, then you can fine tune the location or any settings.

You can change the current task to 'non-scheduled and leave it.
Or, you can use the "Remove from list" opton. The task will disappear but the tib files will remain.

Not sure what type backup scheme you are using, but one of these would be my suggestion. Adjust how many "store X" to fit your needs. All 3 examples provide for automatic cleanup which is the program will do auto deletion of the oldest chain when the program reaches the "store x" number of chains retained on a revolving basis.

How to change a scheduled backup task to "Do Not Schedule".

How to clone task example

Remove Single Task from Task Menu Listing

Custom Full Backup Scheme.Keep 4 versions (chains).

Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. 6 Inc, Keep 4 chains.

Custom Differential Backup Scheme. 2 Diff, Keep 2 chains.
