Problem backing up disk/volume

Thread needs solution

Type: Error

Help for a newbie pls.
Backup works ok for files, but when trying to backup a disk/volume, using default settings, get the following log message.
The 'mms.exe' error is also causing the notifications by email or popup to fail.

Appreciate any thoughts.
Chris.

I have a 1000 GB hard drive with 85 GB of data. Recently I installed Acronis True Image Home 2009.
I try to back up automatically on a weekly basis to my external 300 GB hard drive using full, then incremental backups but on the second attempt the process is stopped and the hard drive is shown as FULL. How can I set up the system to avoid manually deleting past backups from the drive? I have tried several solutions but none work to date.

I'm getting the same error...

Failed to run the backup and recovery engine.

I see several posts regarding this but no solutions posed.

I have also this problem and no solution:

Hello all!

First of all thank you for finding time to post the thread regarding the issue. I entirely share you concerns and will be glad to help you.

chriska, Brian, Michel, the problem could have been caused by different reasons, so we will need some additional investigation information regarding the case. Could you please kindly provide me with the following:

  1. Could you please provide us with the exact sequence of actions that lead to the problem you report, so that we can reproduce it?
  2. - Download AcronisInfo
    - Run the downloaded file.

The gathered information will be put in AcronisInfo.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.

This information will allow us to take a closer look at the Acronis product state and logs.

Please kindly contact us with the information gathered, we will review it and provide you with the solution.

Dear John, thank you for specifying the problem you have faced as well. Unfortunately due to the lack of investigation information currently it is impossible to identify the reason of the issue, so could you please kindly provide us with:

  • Step-by-step what you did
  • Location you are saving the backup to
  • The screenshot of the issue
  • Acronis Info as mentioned in the instruction below

I would also like to mention that you will be able to receive support faster if you post to the Acronis True Image Forum (not the Backup and Recovery one), especially in case you open the new thread.

I would appreciate if you could keep me posted regarding the issues. If you have any other questions or if there are any difficulties with gathering the diagnostic information please just post a comment here and we will certanly help you!

Thank you!

Thanks for looking into it.

I did solve my issue and believe it to be different than the others listed here.

It was basically user error. ;-)

Thanks again.

Hi

How did you solve ???

thank you

In my case, it was the logon account that the Acronis Managed Machine Service was running as. When setting up B&R 10, it asked me which account the service should run as so I just used the administrative account credentials. I'm not sure why but the service was having a problem running as that user. (Maybe I had entered the acct info incorrectly but I don't think so.)

At any rate, I went to Start > Run > services.msc, right-clicked on the Acronis Managed Machine Service, selected "Properties," clicked on the "Log On" tab and changed it to "Local System Account."

Anyway, that's what worked for me.

I was getting my above error with credentials problems.

Often you have the domain user and local user accounts, sometimes even with the same name. Usually, the domain user is has all the local privileges, etc. through the inclusion of the domain group within the local group.

The box that comes up at one point doesn't specify the domain well. So when you enter the username, you need to make sure it's a local account, or enter DOMAIN\user if you enter the credentials for a domain account.

Brian

These two servers I'm working with aren't actually a part of the domain, unlike the rest of our servers. However, I did specify a local administrative account in the initial setup.

Overall, though, the setup of TrueImage was far better than the setup of B&R10, in my opinion.

At any rate, changing that service to run as the local system account worked like a charm. Well, it's working for now, at least.
