Can't install Disc Director Suite on windows 7 64 bits?
After trying to install DD I get the message :"The product can't be install on the platform, The current operating system is not supported." And also this: "The installation program has detected restriction imposed by the license agreement for this product"
What can be done to solve this issue? Is DD compatible with Windows 7 64 bits?
Thank you for helping me out!

I too get the exact same messages with Win7 64bit and v2239.
Anyone know of a fix other than going back to the older v2160? I don't trust it anymore either.
Thanks,
James

Acronis and Microsoft have blocked the latest DD build from installation on W7 systems, partly because like the previous build it is not W7 savvy.
Apparently DD11 is due out sometime which will be W7 ready.
It has been mentioned to their marketing department that the bundle package is misleading, but obviously those ' in command' (tm) are not of that opinion.
You can use the Rescue CD in W7, but of course the sector problem that is current with DD10 and W7/Vista still remains, so it isn't recommended.

One option that I used to run DD 10 on a Win 7 Professional 32bit system was to download the ISO image from the website. You need to log onto your account and the ISO image is an option under your registered products.
I burned a bootable CD and was able to run DD with no problems.
My 2 cents...

The ISO image workaround looks a good idea but, when I have my registered products window open, I can't find an ISO image. 'Download' is pointed at 2239_s_en.exe but is the appwrapper that doesn't work in W7. Where did you find it ?

If it's available, it should be on the Bootable Media tab for DD in your list of registered products. An example is shown in this post.

Hello all,
Bertram,
I checked your account in our database, you do have the possibility to download the respective ISO file. If you still experience the difficulties in getting the access to the file please see this article, it contains the step-by-step guide.
Please let us know the results.

Oleg,
Does the ISO Bootable Media work correctly with Windows 7? I used my 2160 on a new computer to create multiple partitions including one for Windows 7 and ended up loosing my partitions after a resizing operation with Disk Director. When I rebuilt the machine, I used DD-10 to create partitions except not for Windows 7 for which I left unallocated space and let Windows 7 create its own partition - this worked.
I am anxiously awaiting DD-11 with Windows 7 support. Can you give us an update as to when it will become available? In the interim, if the ISO version will work correctly with Windows 7 we can use it.
I have been a loyal Acronis user for many years and have recommended the products to many others. I wish that Acronis had released a Windows 7 version of Disk Director by the Windows 7 release as I know many users are frustrated. Hope it is coming soon!
Thanks for any input on the above questions.

Hello Steve,
Thank you for posting your questions, I will be happy to help.
Acronis Bootable Rescue Media should work on Windows 7-based systems. You can work with hard disks containing any operating system by booting from the CD you created. The Acronis Bootable Rescue Media functionality depends upon the hardware configuration, and I assume that the reason of the issue wasn't related to Windows 7. Most probably, the MBR of the hard drive wasn't updated correctly, that's why the partitions disappeared. Anyway, I am unable to find the exact reason of the issue without additional troubleshooting. Please let me know if you want to give the issue a closer investigation.
Did you try to run Acronis Recovery Expert? Acronis Recovery Expert is an built-in tool and allows recovery of hard disk partitions accidentally deleted or damaged due to a hardware or software failure. You can learn more about this option in User guide for Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 available here (chapter 5).
Steve, the exact date of Acronis Disk Director Suite 11.0 release is unknown, we are working to release the program as soon as possible. We understand the necessity to have a partitioning program with the Windows 7 support.
Thank you.

Hi Oleg,
same problem as everyone here with DD on a Windows7 system.
Even worse: Actually I have 2 systems (1 Vista and 1 Vista I upgraded to Win7) on my system. Before upgrading I deactivated OSS-Selector, then upgraded my "Sandbox-Partition" with Win7 and now I can't switch back, because OSS-Selector doesn't work anymore. Even worse, old installation of DD insisted to deinstall and install new, so I deinstalled. New build DiskDirectorSuite10.0.2241_s_de refuses to accept Windows 7.
Now I can't switch back to my vital system (Vista) hangin arround in my "Sandbox-OS" wich I just upgraded to Win7.
Any idea wich steps to take to have at least OSS installed?
Thanks a lot for any suggestion!
SB.

Hello SB,
Do not worry, I will help you to resolve this issue.
The cause is that OS Selector stores your dual boot configuration within its own folder. And once you deactivate OS Selector, it rewrites MBR with value for booting one system (in all cases dual boot should be configured from scratch after deactivation).
If I understand you correctly, you cannot boot both systems, right?
If yes, we should just fix MBR for one of them and then organize dual boot from scratch.
Here are the instructions (can be applied for Vista and Windows 7, but not for XP family, the detailed instructions on how to restore Windows Bootloader for different systems can be found here):
Please repair Boot Configuration Data in the following way:
1. Put the Windows Vista (or Windows 7) installation disc in the CD\DVD disc drive, and then (re)start the computer;
2. Press a key when you are prompted;
3. Select language, time, currency, keyboard or input method, and then click Next;
4. Click Repair your computer;
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next;
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box click Command Prompt;
7. Type the following:
Bootrec.exe /FixMbr
Bootrec.exe /FixBoot
If you want to completely rebuild Boot Configuration Data, then you should issue the following command:
Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd
This command scans all disks for installations that are compatible with Windows Vista. Additionally, this option lets you select the installations that you want to add to the Boot Configuration Data store.
After that, we should organize your dual boot from scratch. Please let me know what happens after fixing MBR so I can suggest you further.
Also, please do not hesitate to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis.
We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.
Thank you.

Well after having problems with FreeWare, I decided to try Acronis Disk Directory, downloaded the trial and like what I saw. So I purchased the product, and found it will not install on Windows 7 64 bit operating system. Thanks to this dialog, I downloaded the ISO, burned it to disk and was able to do what I needed to do.
The big question is, Will I get the version that supports W7-64bit when it is available. I would like to run the complete check of 500gig that used to have a partition on it, but the complete check option ran for a day and only got thru 2 ticks on the status bar. I can't be without my computer for 2 weeks, but I could let this run, if it was running under windows so I can do other things.
Please let me know.

Ray:
This isn't an answer to your questions but rather more questions. I am assuming that you are using Acronis Recovery Expert to find deleted partitions on the 500 GB disk, correct? Were these partitions created by Vista or Windows 7? If so, Recovery Expert isn't going to find them. It appears to be coded to look for partitions that were aligned to cylinder boundaries, as in Windows XP or earlier. Here is some additional information: http://forum.acronis.com/forum/6558 replies 1-9.

Thank you Mark. I am using Disk Director. It has what looks like the recovery expert, only it is just an option after you select the unallocated portion of the disk. As in the article you referenced I ran the fast check which took many hours (can't remember exactly how many), and it did find the first of the partitions that had disappeared. The other partition was much larger and was located at the end of my 1tb disk with about 200gb of empty space before it.
Instructions for this said if you can't recover using the fast method, then run the complete method which will run much slower. Oh yes, much slower is an understatement, but it is perusing a huge amount of disk space. As I said, I let it run all Christmas Day and night and it only progressed 2 tics on the status bar. I had an old copy of most of the data, so I decided to put that back, but I put it in a partition toward the beginning of the disk leaving that other area untouched.
At this point, I have everything I need, just 2 files I would like to get.
I am hoping I will be able to get the W7-64bit version of this software without paying again. It was a disappointment that Acronis did not indicate that this would not run in W7-64bit. Alas I did get most of it using the .ISO, and that was what I needed.
Please Acronis, most systems are now sold with 64 bit w7, with big disks. We need the software
In the meantime, put a caveat on your site. I had sufficient experience to get through this. Others won't.

Well there might be another way to do this. If I created a new partition and covered the old one, would the data still be in there so it could be recovered by a file recovery program?
Stupid idea, but might work. Anyone know for sure?

Raymond:
Do not create a new partition or you will potentially write over the Master File Table (MFT), making file recovery much more difficult. If it's only two files that you're looking for, try file recovery software like GetDataBack. File recovery software can search unallocated space on the disk, so it may work for you.

Mmm - still do not see any decent view from Acronis on support. W7 been out 3 months, I can understand there might be difficulties but no useful information/timings is not great way to handle this.
For my part i have waited long enough and need the functionality so am off to Paragon who were in there with effective support straight away. This is a shame as I have been all Acronis for HDD backup and maintenance for years.

I completely agree with Carl, and I'm frustrated & I've become embarassed I've been waving the Acronis flag for so long.
Such a core requirement, and there's ZERO product support, let-alone even some news or info on it. Jeez man, seriously.
I'm staring at the Paragon products now, and they have NO problem offering all we need. If I take the plunge, and re-buy my toolkit with them, I'm not coming back.

Hello all,
Carl and K-man, we're really sorry for not informing you about the progress.
Our developers are working on top priority on the new version of Disk Director. Unfortunately, I can't tell you about the time frame on the new release.
We'll inform you about the update.
Thank you.

@Ilya:
I can't understand the bahaviour of Acronis in this Case.
ADD10 works fine with Win7. There is no Problem of ADD10 to work with Win7. The only thing to do, is to make the Installroutine from ADD10 to recognize Win7.
I NEED a Bootmanager like ADD10 or a Partitionprogramm.
In the meanwhile i've bought Paragon Partition Manager™ 10.0 Professional. Now all works fine.
I know that ADD10 works with Win7 without any crashes, don't tell anything else. (If you don't know how, i can teach you Ilya/Acronis). It is very Simple.
The real reason is to earn Money, that ADD10 don't support Win 7!

Tonight I installed my copy of Win7 I bought a while ago & can't get the 32bit ADD10 to install either. When I bought Acronis as it was advertised to function with Win7 it was also very problematic to get it (& TI2010) to install on XP too.
If there's a fix that includes all those previous steps like installing that Acronis clean up utility, install this program first, that one second etc. please send detailed instructions when it's ready to us registered users who aren't so computer savvy!
Thanks

Hi. Got the same problem. It seems I paid for nothing... It really annoys me. One expects a program to work, since the specs och the homepage says so. But no... Why Acronis does this I don't know, but I feel ripped off.
As a last resort I'll try this ISO-file thing that's been recommended by others.
And when Acronis finally fixes this in some new wersion, will I get for free?

"...will I get for free?" ~ LOL- ROTFLMAO ~ Acronis would probably charge by the Megabyte everytime you run it, if they could. See rant below.

I am having same type of issue BTW, and I do hope I can get into my Win 7 Ult x64 with my boot disk made in XP. I need to try "repair" and then if that don't do it, maybe "move" the partition to my SATA drive (Win 7 is on an IDE drive).
You see, I am having File Structure corruption errors and it wants me to run Chkdsk. Well, it ran it on the next boot up, again and again. On into an infinate loop. Had to actually resort to pulling the plug. The On/Off and reset buttons didn't work.
I am about to boot up again. I did shut down ok last night. I really hope that I can do this with that rescue disk. I know about going to the repair console and using FixBoot, FixMBR, and stuff. I am just doing things in an order. From easiest to hardest.

I would be surprised if they gave a very heavy discount and not make you pay full price again.
Sounds like a lot of European software companies I have bought from. Man, they do things different as far as support and upgrades. More and more software organizations are thinking that they really do not need you (or me) to keep them in business. Hmmm...maybe they don't (i.e. Bailouts ect.) I am sorry for the complaining. I know I know, sit down and shut up, we're the boss now.
Sorry Acronis, but if you are going to charge me all over again, I will have to consider others (giving me no reason not to), or just not use anything. I do hope you understand your customers concerns better and to be forthcoming in information and pricing. I do apologize for the venting.
