Computer will not shut down after backup
I run a scheduled disk backup and verify and the computer does not shut down when finished. If I launch Acronis, the countdown screen begins and then the computer shuts down. This only happens if the backup is run by the scheduler. If I run the backup manually, the computer shuts down after the backup and verify. This process worked correctly running ATIH 2013.
Anyone else having the same problem? Any suggestions?
I am running Windows 7 x64 and ATIH 2014.

Thanks for the reply thomasjk. Could you be a little more specific concerning the shutdown.cmd file. What does it look like and how do I create and execute it?

Never mind thomasjk. I went to google and figured it out. Thanks for the post processing idea. I tried it and it worked great.

ChasC,
Look at this link regarding shutdown. This offers a few more options.

Why can't companies get it right after upgrades.
I was using Acronis 2013 and everything worked right. Now went to 2014 and shutdown doesn't work any longer with win7. Easy to ask for upgrade money but then we have to iron out the bugs for them. No wonder there are some many people pirating software. Who wants to pay for software when it takes so many updates until maybe it works right. Come on acronis instead of sellling features that changed form 2013 o 2014 make sure what worked before works again...

I hope Acronis fixes their shut down problem with Windows 7. People shouldn't have to rely on workarounds.

Hello All,
Well this gets even more interesting. I have encountered exactly the same problem with exactly the same symptoms after upgrading to ATIH2014. Here's the kicker, I am running Windows 8 Pro x64. So clearly it is not a Windows 7 problem only!?
I can only think that it may be a permission issue and the shutdown task can only run after the elevated prompt has been submitted, this would explain why it completes the shutdown after you open ATIH 2014 to see what the problem is and accept the elevated permissions prompt in doing so?

Here are some latest details if it can help figure it out.
I noticed from my log file that the operation starts at 12:45AM and all seems to work. But I get an operation complete(last log file) at 8:15am. This is when I got to my computer and moved the mouse.
When I get to the computer in the morning I notice that the PC is not sleeping but the screen is turned off. When I move the mouse the screen wakes-up and the pc shuts down.
I did use different power schemes and all seem the same.

For those users whose comptuer wakes and goes to sleep as it should but having trouble with shutdown or backup completion etc, one possible workaround might be setting the computer to stay awake during the backup and resetting it back to normal after the backup.
If interested in this guide to a workaround, click on link 3 below and look at item 9 inside that link which spells out all the details.

Does anyone know if Update 1 fixes this shutdown problem?

If needed, use the workarounds above until fix has been completed.

I have just installed True Image 2014 on windows seven enterprise, and now my machine will not shut down at all...not just after a backup is performed. The screen powers down and the computer says "shutting down" but the power light stays on and I can hear the machines fans running. I thought it may be hibernating but I am unable to wake it up when it does that, my only option is to hold the power button down until it shuts off. The problem does not seem to affect restarts.
I will open another thread on this as it is really not quite the same problem as posted in this thread

Using an elevated command prompt, run 'powercfg -energy ' (without the quote marks) , see if the resulting HTML file shows any hardware or software in addition to True Image preventing shutdown.

My Problem is the same. After finishing Backup, the PC won't shutdown. It's a very old TI Problem since many years in version 9, 10 and so on. They fixed it in the last 2 or 3 major versions, but after upgrade to (german) version 2014 (on same PC!) it's again present! My Energy options are on "Full Power" (Win7 x64, latest SP and Patches installed). I try to use Grovers hint with the "Timed-shutdown.CMD". The script (cmd-file is on root of c:) worked from the GUI correct. But when TI started the script, it fails. The Log says:
Systemfehler beim Ausführen: C:/Timed-shutdown.CMD. (0x103FF)
Tag = 0x858CC05F488A8CA8
Zugriff verweigert (0xFFF0)
code = 80070005)
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8C3
Information 22.12.2013 00:57:39 Child-Prozess endete mit dem Code '0'.
True Image 22.12.2013 00:57:39 Ausführung des Benutzerbefehls fehlgeschlagen: C:/Timed-shutdown.CMD. Fehler: 1.
It seems to be a "permission denied" problem. under what account runs TI, especially which service started the script? The scheduler...?
Must I give one of the TI components some "RUN AS" rights in the GPOs?
Or is it better to place the script in the TI Home Directory?
Or should I uses those old TI-Script: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=187093
Or is it better to use not a scriptfile but the parameter fields in the GUI to let TI run the SHUTDOWN.EXE directly?
Greetings from Berlin!

That doesn't work. I already give the file Full Access rights to Everyone and the right to read and run at BATCH, SERVICE and LOCAL SERVICE additional.
event id=16, level=3, module=1, code=1023, time=1387785669, message="Systemfehler beim Ausführen: C:/Timed-shutdown.CMD. (0x103FF)

event id=17, level=4, module=100, code=133, time=1387785669, message="Ausführung des Benutzerbefehls fehlgeschlagen: C:/Timed-shutdown.CMD. Fehler: 1."
The Windows Eventlogs show no problems.
It is possible, that eventually my Agnitum Outpost Security Suite blocked some Acronis Actions. Normally, Agnitum asks me again, if it checks when EXE-files are updated, if i will trust them. But maybe I missed one of thes question after the upgrade to Acronis TI 2014, so Agnitum blocked some things. Now I gave every EXE-File in "c:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis" (incl. Subdirs), in "c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis" and all running Acronis-processes and -services full rights for running and accessing system files and network. I hope it works next night.... I will tell you.
Merry XMas!

Done! One Acronis process need the right to execute CMD.EXE. My Outpost Security Suite is sometimes a little bit annoying... ;-)
But nevertheless Acronis have to fix the Problem with the not working Shutdown option.

Well I just took the plunge and upgraded to win 8.1 well guess what same shut down problem....It will not shut down but when I move the mouse in the morning weather it is in sleep mode or not , then it will shut down...too late now.
Older versions worked beautifully. Good for you Acronis maybe instead of sending tons of emails on promos maybe you should concentrate on getting your product to work.

Add my name to the list of Acronis TI 2014 users with this problem. My wife's and my computer have full backup plus six increment tasks scheduled to run daily at 6am. We usually turn on our computers after 6am and continue working after backup is completed as incremental backups are fast. However when a full backup runs which takes a few hours, we may be finished with the computer before the backup finishes. Then we would open Acronis and check the box to shut down when completed. We were using Acronis 2012 and it worked fine.
With TI 2014 the checkbox fails to execute. I can't shut the computer off unless I abort the backup not is it practical to wait until its finished. I find that when I return the computer hasn't gone to sleep but the backup is finished. Touching any key initiates shutdown. Tech support offered the "Timed-shutdown.CMD" post command option but this always shuts down the computer even if we're still using it.
It very disappointing that update bring back old problems. Especially since it's been 7 month since mentioned in the Forum.

Hi Ray F.
I have got around the problem by using the shutdown.cmd as previously instructed by others and also have a shortcut on the desktop that cancels the shutdown command just in case I am continuing to use the system.
I have configured my system bios to boot the system at 6am; auto-logon to Windows; run the Acronis differential/full system back up ; then shutdown the system using the shutdown.cmd when completed.
This means that, when I power-on the system at about 8.30am it has already completed a system back-up for that day, before I start using the system.
I notice you mention it takes several hours to do a full back up, is this due to the location of your backups i.e. on external USB or Network connected drive I wonder? Anyhow the shutdown.cmd with the cancel feature should still be workable?????????

Ray F,
This will work for you as Sanstorm999 describes.

Tech support sent me a zip file with the "Timed-shutdown.CMD" string and text instructions to implement the technique that GroverH describes. However they didn't send me the canceling shortcut. So although shutdown worked, it would shut down the computer even if I still wanted to continue working. The shortcut is an improvement.
But most of the time I want to continue working. If I'm not paying attention to the screen and cancel the command it will shut me down. Checking the box in Acronis to shut down would work except that it stalls awaiting for a key to be pressed. Isn't there a post file that will simulate pressing a key? If so then Acronis would work more like it's designed.

Based on some empirical data:
If the “Disk Backup Options >> Error Handling box, “Do not show messages and dialogs while processing (silent Mode)" is checked, the program will not shut down. Unchecking that box seems to allow the computer to shut down in both 2013 & 2014 versions.

Same problem here after upgrading from 2011 to 2014. 2011 didn't have this issue. My “Do not show messages and dialogs while processing (silent Mode)" box is not checked.
It begins shutdown countdown as soon as I come back to the computer after the image backup is complete - perhaps set off my mouse or keyboard action. The computer is not asleep beforehand. Nothing else has changed in the pc so it's something introduced in the 2014 upgrade. I'm using win7 ultimate.

Mike
It may be unique to your hardware configuration. You may need ti try the workaround.
If your power configuration is set to anything other than "balanced", try setting to balanced or another less performance oriented setting and see if that helps. Have you explored the settings inside the power configuration?

Ignore this duplicate.

Thanks Grover for your help. I'll try it after experimenting a bit more but nevertheless why would upgrading to TI 2014 result in this problem whereas no issue with TI 2011?

Exact same problem here for me. Win 7 Pro. Backup scheduled at 10pm, runs and completes, at which point the computer should shut down. No sleep or hibernate is enabled, however the display is turned off after 15mins. The next morning, the machine is still on. Wiggle the mouse (so the screen is enabled, then a few seconds later, the machine shuts down. Looking at the Acronis log (picture attached), it seems that the shutdown hangs until some user activity re-enables the screen, and then it proceeds to try to do the shutdown. Reading the threads, this has been a problem for over a year now. Since I only get 30 days of support, I can't even get support from Acronis without paying them. This stuff worked fine in TIH 2012, which I replaced with TIH 2014. Come on Acronis, get your act together! No wonder people get fed up with this company. How about making the basics work right, instead of constantly adding "Fluff" every year so you can sell another version (and never fix the last one).
