Win 7 x64 won't boot after True Image 2014 install

Thread needs solution

Upgraded from Seagate DiscWizard. During install, TI 2014 tells me to reboot the computer. Reboot leads to a black screen with my mouse pointer in the middle of it. Can only get to Task Manager from there (cntrl-alt-del). Booted into Safe Mode, but cannot access System Restore or anything else for that matter. Had to boot from Windows repair DVD to get to system restore.

Tried the install, again, making sure nothing else was running and antivirus was turned off.

Still black screen after post and Windows splash screen.

Thoughts?

I would say there are some leftover registry entries from the DiscWizard install that are in conflict with the TI 2014 install. If you are comfortable working with Windows Registry you could try using a Registry cleaning tool to remove leftover entries. My favorite is CCleaner but there are many to choose from.

Maybe I should give a go at removing DiscWizard by hand first? Too many times I've done an uninstall of a product only to discover that the new version needed to find the old one before it'd install.

That may well work for you, no harm in giving it a try.
