Imaging a GPT disk to a new disk

Thread needs solution

I have taken a backup from a disk that is in GPT format, with Windows 8 on it. I am needing to restore it to a new disk that is larger to increase the size of a partition. In between the OS partition and the partition with more space is a partition that seems to not contain anything but when I try to remove it the disk will not boot. When I try to do a straight restore of the image to the new disk I get an error stating that the disk will not boot.

How do I get this image to restore so I can expand or merge the two partitions and get it to boot?

HELP!

Thanks.

A GPT disk will boot on a computer with a UEFI BIOS only.
If you try to boot the GPT disk on a standard BIOS machine, boot will fail also.

Create a backup that contains all partitions of the system disk and restore the entire disk. ATI will scale the partitions appropriately.
