Clone Disk to Another Computer

Thread needs solution

Hello Everyone,

We are trying to migrate a user from one older computer to a new system. The OS (Win7) will not be changing, just the hardware (it is newer hardware, but the same model computer) due to some hardware issues on the original computer. We purchased Acronis True Image 2014 Premium to get the clone feature. We looked up the documentation in the knowledge base to make sure we were following the correct process. Once we get done with cloning the image to a new hard drive, we put the new hard drive back into the new computer and try to boot it up. We end up at a boot screen that shows 'No bootable devices -- strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility.' We have tried cloning from old drive to thumb drive to new drive. We tried old drive directly to new drive via SATA. Both methods give the same results. Any advice?

Cloning is not the correct way to do this. You need to start by making Disk Mode backup image of the original HDD and then use Universal Restore to put that image on the new hardware. See http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIH2014/#13905.html. I suggest reading Grover's Guides https://forum.acronis.com/forum/3426 in particular https://forum.acronis.com/forum/56872. You will need the drivers for the new HDD controller to complete the restore. Also look at GH33, GH53 and GH54 in the Guide.
