Trying to recover disk drive using boot CD but Acronis doesn't find .tib files on removable drive

Thread needs solution

I try all the removable drive letters but no files are displayed. When I plug the removable USB drive into another computer the files are there.

Choose the Recovery option and then use the Browse for Backups option. Make sure your window size is maximum and it is possible that the files are on extreme right and you may have to use the sliding horizontal bar to find them.

OK, so before I selected Browse for Backups I did a Refresh backups to make sure the USB removable disk was online. I maximized the window and scrolled all the way to the right checking drives F, G, H, I, J and Local Disk K. Nothing there. Also selected Show All Files, not just *.tib and nothing shows. The files on my C: drive do show up. Then I tried selecting the Backup option and there I see my removable USB drive. It says:

Disk1: Unknown (Unlabeled) (K:) 2.729 TB Unknown [It's a 3 TB Western Digital (My Book) drive]

For my Gateway desktop C: drive it has the following:
Disk2: NTFS (Gateway (C:) 207.8 GB 42.8 GB
NTFS (RECOVERY) 303 MB 233 MB NTFS Hidden
FAT32 (ESP) 300 MB 63.5 MB
NTFS (Push Button Reset) 15 GB 13.96 GB Hidden
Acronis Secure Zone 97 MB 787 KB FAT32

If I plug the My Book drive into another computer the Windows Acronis app sees all the files. I have backups for the Gateway, an HP laptop, and a Dell laptop. I've never tried a Recovery before, just backed everything up assuming the Recovery would work when I needed it.

This whole problem started when I tried to upgrade my Windows 8 to 8.1. Wouldn't work, got an error code. Gateway support suggested I do a Refresh. Didn't work. They suggested I try a Reset. Didn't work, said a Partition was missing. They suggested I reformat my C: drive. With what? A third party disk tool. Like what? They couldn't say. That's when I decided to try my faithful Acronis Recovery process. That's where I'm at now. Of course my Acronis warranty expired early this year. Any suggestions?

Just to confirm. We are talkiog about TrueImage Home 2014 recovery CD?
If yes, is this the standard or the premium version?

Hello KailuaKid,

please check if changing of USB port solves the issue (if you use USB 3.0 post plug in your My Book drive using USB 2.0 port etc.).  Also please exclude any adapters.

If you have a large amount of data stored on this disk it also makes sense to wait (up to 10 minutes) till while data is processed.

Grover, thank you for your help!

Thank you.

I changed the USB to the 2.0 port (I had been using the 3.0 port), but no change. I waited at least a half hour, but no files show up to recover.
