Automatic Cleanup Will Not Function For External Drive Reserve Copies (Image As Well As Files and Folders)

Thread needs solution

I have selected Image backups to be written on a second internal hard drive and the reserve copy of the image to be placed on an external drive. Of the various parameters selected for the weekly, full version scheduled backup, one is to “Store no more than 1 + 2 recent versions” with Automatic Cleanup selected. This is also the case with the Files and Folders backup. I have noticed that the total number of versions remains at no more than 3 on the internal hard drive; however, the image as well as the files and folders backups is increasing in backup versions to the point of consuming all external hard drive volume space. Question: Why will the reserve copies of backups not hold at a total of 3 versions but continue to increase?

David,
As best I know, reserve copies is and has been (in the past versions) totally under manual control. Its basic function is to make a reserve copy and thats it. No retention rules apply.

The files and folders may be a problem if it is not retaining the correct number of files. If you made any edits to its settings after its original creation or if you performed any restores, all could cause the malfunction to which you refer. One rule practice is no changes in configuration to my tasks and it is rare that I have a retention problem.

Here are some backup scheme examples which have worked for me.

GH11. Create Custom Full Backup Scheme.Keep 4 versions (chains). The 4 is user choice.
GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. 6 Inc, Keep 4 chains. The 6-4 is user choice.
GH13. Create Custom Differential Backup Scheme. 2 Diff, Keep 2 chains. The 2-2 is user choice.
GH14. Custom Differential Backup Scheme . 6 Diff, Keep 4 chains. & folder
