can you use UR if you made an image of a partition

Thread needs solution

using b&r 10

I think i read somewhere that if you have say 2 partitions c: and d: and you make an image of c: then if you try and restore that image using the boot cd UR will not be available. So you would need to make a full drive image instead of one partition before UR was available??

Hello Andyr!

Thank you for your question, and let me help you with it.

In case you backup the system partition, there should be no issues with using the Acronis Bootable Rescue Media. The reason why it doesn't show up may be

  • it cannot identify the OS in the image
  • something's wrong with the Acronis Bootable Rescue Media

In order to make sure that the Acronis Bootable Rescue Media is fine, let us try the newest one. I would like to send you one via PM, but unfortunately cannot find any information regarding the product on your account. Could you please kindly register the licenses you have here or kindly specify me the e-mail address the product was purchased to?

Should the issue persist, we will need some additional information for successful investigation. I would appreciat if you could kindly let us know the following:

  1. Could you please specify your OS? Please note that should you use Windows 7, you need to backup not only the C: partition, but also 100 Mb system drive, otherwise OS won't be recognized in the image.
  2. Please gather Acronis Info from the source machine. Could you please kindly do the following?

    - Download AcronisInfo
    - Run the downloaded file.

The gathered information will be put in AcronisInfo.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.

This information will allow us to take a closer look at the Acronis product state and logs.

Please note that for successful booting of the machine after the recovery onto the dissimilar hardware you need to add the mass storage device drivers. Please note that prior to restoring to new hardware you need also to contact the vendor of the RAID controller (or other mass storage device - e.g. SCSI disk controller) and request the latest drivers for this mass storage device.

Then please unpack them from the package they are sent to you, so that the drivers were in .inf and .oem format I would also advise you to pay attention to this article with the step-by-step screenshots.

Please let me know whether everything went fine or you need further assistance - I will be glad to help!

Thank you!
