Bad Archive (my fault too)
I admit it, I messed up.. Had a power glitch that caused a write error during back up and clicked on IGNORE, so the program lost a few sectors when making the backup on the external HD.
Now.. This is not a total loss though as the computer crashed and I was just trying to back up the disc so I could recover DATA files. text and graphics. All the programs were already backed up on an older backup
(Restoring that by the way not only worked 100%, but fixed a few "issues" I was having with other software.. (Seems I had a bad sector on the C: drive as well that was preventing some software from installing properly.. Doing the restore. either avoided, or re-formatted, that bad sector)
Finally the question:
Is anyone aware of a method, or program (Free I hope) that will simply READ the faulty archive and decode what can be decoded, presenting it for "Import" so I can copy any file NOT corrupted by the mess up?
This would be way easier then restoring all the files from their orignial souces (Which is an option on all but one of them...And that one is of low importance)
Thanks in advance.. I'll watch for updates

I tried mounting with True Image.. it says "Bad Archive" and refuses to mount it.
That's why I"m asking for software or any hints on how to get around that bad-archive error message.
I just need to mount the thing so I can read the files
NOTE: the computer kind of lost it's mind in that another program messed up all the links properties files..
All the links were there but they no longer pointed to files.. I don't know how this happened (I was running Spam Bot Search and Destroy when it happened) but thankfully I had a good backup on hand.. It's just I'd like to re-cover the files that were newer than the back up is all.

Acronis tech help finally got back to me with my log-in name, and from there I got my password. and from there the knowledge base became useable, and that lead me to a program which fixed it enough that I now have recovered 100% of the very important files and over 90% of the not so important files.. And the ones that I've not recovered should be fairly easy to re-snag off the net.
In short. I'm happy.
I won't name the file as it's ony for registered users and when I went into the knowledge base it was easy to find.

Glad it worked John and thanks for reporting back
Any hint on the file name as postings on "corrupt tibs" are common - due to a variety of reasons- and I have not heard of many people recovering a significant amount of data from them
I find searching on the knowledge base very poor

Well, you wish to RESTORE a TIB
(Tibrestorer.exe) I could not download it till I logged in on with my registration account however so I suspect it's only avb to registered customers.
When I ran it it specifically said it would NOT restore a corrupt Archive... That all it could do was re-link one.
Well it re-linked it, it re-named it (It put a log called "Rename.log" in the directory it resided in so I can name 'me back) and it got it so I got nearly all my files back in great shape.. Only lost a few and those were low on the totem pole importance wise
I even got one PROGRAM back, since the install file was still in residence on the archive (I did have to re-install it but, hey.. if you have the Setup file, that's click-click easy)
