USB 3.0 Capability Not Present After Universal Restore

Thread needs solution

After successful completion of a Universal Restore of Windows 7 Pro system, with Device Manager showing no errors, I receive a 'Your USB device can perform faster..." message from Windows when I plug a USB 3.0 capable device into a USB 3.0 port.

Device Manager indicates the presence of USB 3.0 hubs and hardware.

The ports work, but not at USB 3.0 speeds.

I've read elsewhere that he solution is a W7 clean installation, but that kind of defeats the purpose of the Universal Restore...

Any thoughts?

You should check with your motherboard OEM to see if you need to download and install a driver for the USB 3.0 controller on the motherboard.

Thank you for responding. After completing the Universal Restore, the system boots to W7 and W7 installs drivers. After this process is complete, I reboot again and run the motherboard driver installation program. This program indicates that a USB 3.0 driver is installed, but that it is not the latest version. Along with other driver updates, I have it install the latest USB 3.0 driver.

The process completes without error. Everything works EXCEPT the USB 3.0 capability. Something (I believe) from the disk backup of W7 is carried over which prevents W7 from using the USB 3.0 driver.

This evening I did a clean install of W7 and the MB drivers. The USB 3.0 capability worked, so its not a hardware issue.

Any other ideas?

Have you made certain that USB 3.0 or Super Speed USB is enabled in your BIOS?

This link may provide a solution for you:

As far as I can tell, there is no setting in my MB BIOS specific to USB 3.0 / Super Speed USB; all USB functions listed are shown as active.

I've skimmed through the material at the link you provided and see if I can carry it out.

As you already own the premium version, why not try the WinPE version of the Recovery CD or an even better solution is the MustangPE version. Refer signature link #10 below.

46255: Acronis True Image 2014 Premium: Creating WinPE Media with Acronis Plug-In

If I am understanding your issue correctly, the TrueImage Recovery Cd is not using 3.0 speeds. this disk is Linux.
The WinPE is Windows and may have your driver built in; or the MustangePE has the option of adding your own custom drivers if those are needed. My suggestion just provides a few more options for you to reach your faster transfer speed with backup or recoveries.

Your understanding is not quite correct. Its not that the TI Recovery CD is not using USB 3.0 speeds (it isn't, but that's not my concern at the moment), its that AFTER the recovery is complete (drivers installed, W7 updated, no errors noted in Device Manager, etc) and the system is running, all hardware works EXCEPT that the USB 3.0 ports will run only at USB 2.0 speeds.

Did you install the USB 3.0 drivers specific to your USB 3.0 controller (e.g. Renesas?)

Yes, using the installation CD that accompanied the motherboard. W7 Device Manager indicates that the USB 3.0 Host Controller has a Renesas driver.

You. should check your mobo mfg website for the latest Renesas driver. Also make sure your bois is up to date with latest version. Is your platform Intel or AMD based?
