Restore Active Directory
I want to restore Active directory in windows server 2008 (after backing it with single pass of course).
This is my first time to use Acronis products. I'm testing it. I delete an account in a domain (Active Directory). I'm trying to restore it.
Otherwise I cannot apply the procedure described in the manual.
Could you help me?

So how can restore Active Directory after disaster?
As I said I'd like to test Acronis Backup Advaned to see if my company must buy it. Now Acronis Backup is in trial mode.

If you have a single domain controller your actions depend on what other type of data you have on this machine.
- If this server is used only for Active Directory, so no other services or data located on it, then you can just recover its entire backup image. The server will be ready immediately after restore.
- If you don't want to recover the entire image and want to restore the Active Directory databases only, than your actions would be to follow the step-by-step "Recovering the database from a backup" instruction.
When you recover a domain controller in the multi-DC environment, ensure that a USN rollback problem will not occur.
If you have more specific questions or problems with proceeding with the instruction steps, feel free to ask your questions.

My main problem is how to restart the domain controller in windows server 2008.

When you turn the machine on, press F8 before Windows starts booting.
You should get the following pre-bootable menu (see the attachment). If you cannot boot to this menu - please provide more details about your environment - and mainly - do you have a physical access to the server?

Thank you very much for these details.
Unfortunately, when I'm in that mode (Directory Services Restore), I cannot manage localhost when I start Acronis BAckup. I can also manage a remote machine or server. Otherwise my PC is the server.
What can I do now?

Hi Naas.
Since you cannot connect to localhost, looks like the Acronis Managed Machine Service is not started on this machine.
I want you to get back to the disaster recovery instruction, p.4
Note that after you boot to the Directory Services Restore Mode, you need to change user who runs Acronis agent service. On a domain controller this service always runs under a domain user account, but the domain user accounts are unavailable in Directory Services Restore Mode.
- Change the original account of the Acronis agent service to the Directory Services Restore Mode (DSRM) Administrator account:
- Open the Services snap-in.
- In the list of services, double-click Acronis Managed Machine Service.
- On the Log On tab, in This account, specify the user name and password that you use to log on to Directory Services Restore Mode, and then click Apply.
- On the General tab, click Start. After the service starts, click OK.

I've done it. I resored SYSVOL directory.
Now how can I restore Active Directory database from SYSVOL directory?

At last. I found how to do. You had to copy the restore folder and paste it in the appropriate disc. I've done it and it works.
Thanks very much Andrew.
Now, the next step in my test is MS SQL Server. I hope it'll be easy like Active Directory.

Hi Nass,
Nice that you're done with testing Acronis Backup 11.5 for Active Directory.
To say in advance regarding backup/recovery of MS SQL Server - it does not involve such specific manipulations like booting into DSRM or something else. So, the operations with MS SQL Server databases backup are quite more self-explanatory.

Folks, please be aware that if you really did a SINGLE-PASS backup, there is no need to start Acronis Backup in the Directory Services Restore Mode, change the service account etc.
Just follow these steps: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_11.5/i…
