Win 7 Restore Problem

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I am running v2011, on a Win 7 PC. I have run regular backups but never needed to do a restore. Now my machine is unstable so I thought I'd restore from a system backup done in June. I am trying to restore to C:Win7 from G:/My Backups. I make the relevant selections from within windows, ( Reserved, Win7 , MBR and all permutations thereof) hit restore and reboot as instructed. The machine boots into what, in the old days, I would call DOS, runs a few lines, then gets to --
usb 1-1. New high speed usb device number 2 using ehci_hcd.

Then everything halts, the cursor stops blinking and it just sits there. Similar result also from the bootable media.

Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong please?

It is not DOS. It is a Linux environment.

Disk restores should be performed only after booting from the ATI bootable Rescue Media.

Don't connect the external drive via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case.

Thanks Tuttle.

I was aware it was a Linux environment, but I only ever got involved with DOS - it was like a blast from the past!

The source location on G: is an internal drive, so no there were no connection issues. Anyway, I eventually solved the problem by booting from the original ATI disc. Why the bootable rescue media didn't work, I have no idea. But that's a different story........
