Update 6673 backs up 3 times slower than 6614 - SSD --> USB3.0 External

Thread needs solution

9+ minutes vs 3+ minutes for 12gb. Anyone else having this problem? I de-installed 6673 and reinstalled 6614 just to prove it. Back to 3+ mins!!

Win 8.1, Toshiba Q SSD 128gb, USB 3.0, Seagate 500gb SATA II (3gb/sec) in external enclosure

Yes.... same problem. 2013, Build 6614 was horrific. I went from 30 minute backup to 3 hours! I purchased the update to 2014 build 6673 and now it says 8 hours? Acronis ??? You've got to be kidding me!!

Hi Tom,

I'm very sorry to know that you are not satisfied with Acronis True Image 2014 backup speed.

I've created a support case for you and you will be contacted soon for investigation.

Thank you.

I purchased and installed a Full Version of TI 2014 for my desktop- so that was a clean install. That install runs just fine. I can backup close to 70 Gigs of data in under 20 minutes.

The problem is with my LAPTOP- a Dell Latitude E6530.

OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3540M CPU @ 3.00GHz, 3001 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s);
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB

When I first installed 2013 (and I do not recall the original build number), it was running fine. I think accepted and installed an update. Somewhere, shortly thereafter, my backup times increased dramatically (without a change in data on my hard drive). I have since changed over to an SSD. I have run full diagnostics on this laptop- everything checks out just fine.

On my Laptop - it is VERY fast- Fast boot, fast everything else. I can copy and paste (from my laptop to my USB 3.0 external drive) a 47GB file in 7 minutes. So there is nothing wrong with the hardware.

On my Desktop, I use TI 2014 to backup 70 GB and create a 30GB TI compressed file on a USB 3.0 drive in under 10 minutes (yes, that has 16GB memory and a super fast I7 processor). That PC is very fast.

So this leaves me to believe something has happened with the TI 2013 install on my Laptop. That is why I purchased the upgrade to 2014. I was thinking that "things would be fixed." Not true, the SLOWNESS problem simply migrated from the old install to the new one."

Lesson learned - if having problems with a software app, it's probably best to avoid the UPGRADE path- probably best to remove the old version "completely" (including a CCleaner job to make sure the Registry is clean) and then try a new install with a FULL package.

Right now, I still have the upgrade install on my Latitude laptop. Something is conflicting with Acronis and causing this problem.

I have spent DAYS working on this problem. I believe I have solved the mystery of the 3 hour backup times.

As mentioned, I have other computers running Acronis 2014 and they have no problems. The backups run quickly. The problem was on my Laptop. I saw something in a different thread about Firewall settings. So I did a side-by-side comparison. Sure enough, the Laptop had two entries in the Windows Firewall settings (Allow a program or feature...). The first entry is for the "Acronis Sync Agent Service." The second entry is for "Acronis True Image Home." Both entries had a check mark in the "Public" column on my laptop. On my Desktop, the check marks were in the "Home/Work" column. So I made sure the Laptop had the same settings. Once I made the change, BAM... the backup run time returned to 20 minutes.

I don't know if these entries are made in the Windows Firewall Settings during installation or if they appear if you try to back up to the cloud. Since I make local backups only, I could care less. The question is... if I am backing up to an external hard drive, do I need these entries? I will experiment further and update this thread. For now, mystery seems to be solved.

Tom

Confirming.... during installation, Acronis makes one entry in the Window Firewall screen - "Acronis Sync Agent Service". I must have added the second line shown. In any event, make sure you have a check mark in the "Home/Work" columns. See attached file for a screen shot.
