blinking underscore
Hi,
I hope this to be the correct forum.
The very first time after many many years I've got a problem with partition recovery of a system partition.
(TrueImage 2010)
After playing back the image and rebooting I get a blinking underscore, nothing else.
What may have caused the problem and how to solve?
Thank you, horst

Good morning and thank you for the response.
That is one of the problems: The new computer came with win 7 installed plus win 8 install DVDs.
I performed a system image (acronis) first and two further during process of installation my software.
But for sure I want to use the existing win 7 system.
Is there a way to use acronis tools for that? why has been a damaging of the MBR?

I think you just might be able to correct the Boot Record using the Win 8 media, certainly worth a try. The media should enable you to enter the RE (recover environment) which should be the same for both Win 7 and 8. Here is a link that describes how:

Good morning,
you brought me the idea to use the win 7 installation CD from another computer, thank you!
With that I called the DOS prompt and after performing bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot the damage has been repaired.
But the question in the end is: what causes this problem?

Hard to say exactly. There are nay number of things that can go wrong during a backup/restore. Boot Record corruption occurs and when that happens fortunately we have tools that most of time will fix the problem. Glad to hear this was the case for you.

It would be fine if acronis will provide us with these tools. Even with DiskDirector (I have) it is not possible the repair mbr problems - as far as I know. horst
- as far as I know ... just discovered the thing called 'Rcovery Expert' - will have a look at that.
