WTH -- WD Passport Essential not recognized?

Thread needs solution

Just got shiny new Acronis TI2010 and 500G Western Digital "My Passport Essential" USB drive to make an initial image of shiny new HP 6730b laptop.

No joy. The USB disk isn't seen by booted TI. I have d/l'd the latest Bootable Media from the product support page, so have "been there, done that" for all I know to do.

Looking for suggestions/answers!

Thanks,
rnd

*SOLVED*

Using the d/l'd bootable media (isolinux iso), the WD USB drive *is* visible...

*IF*

... you hide the virtual CD that they store their utilities in on the drive.

Hiding the VCD is done via the WD SmartWare UI after you do a firmware upgrade. I'm happily backing up my new laptop as I type (on my old laptop :-) ).

I don't know yet whether the *original* bootable media builder from the installed app will work or not. It's working through this path at least, and that's really the bottom line!
