You should check for any driver updates for your HDD or drive controller updates. Hangs are usually attributable to driver incompatibility.

Thanks, Enchantech. Current are drivers installed. I checked the Event Logs, and the only error description when the hang occurs is "system shutdown unexpectedly". Although the CPU peaks at times during a backup, the system temps are staying within tolerance. I do defrags and disc cleans.

If drivers are current then you should probably check your ram for errors. Run Memtest86 which will stress test your RAM. If RAM passes then your next step would be to check your disks for errors. I can say that there have been problems reported in these pages about certain SanDisk USB drives, not sure if yours is one of those or not but you can check that by simply not having it attached to your machine during a backup attempt. You might want to test your IEEE1394 drive in the same manner.

Something to try. Set the priority to low under the Performance option. I had a system that always gave a BSOD during a TI backup. Setting the priority to low solved the problem.

I've always had it set to 'normal" or "high", with the thought that I'm willing to dedicate all resources necessary to complete the backup as quickly and efficiently as possible. Very certain I'm not sure how the Performance Option works. I will set the next one to "low".
Any other hints or experiences are greatly appreciated.

So far, Ive tried all your adjustments, Enchantech, except one. I've had no success creating a Memtest86 bootable CD. I've tried three times burning a dicsc, but whatever I'm burning does not work. I'm missing something in the instructions. Is there anyway to get one of these CD's. I performed the Windows Memory test which completed successfully without any problems detected.
