Can't install Windows AIK to make WinPE of Acronis 2014 media

Thread needs solution

Several days ago I discovered that I could not access the USB2 external hard drive to which I have been saving Acronis 2014 images regularly from several of my machines. More specifically, I can’t access image files on that drive from the sole Windows 7 machine that I backed up to that particular external drive.

This is clearly a problem. The solution would seem to be a WinPE version of the Acronis 2014 media. The problem is that I cannot get Windows AIK to install on either of my two Windows 7 machines. Both machines are running OEM versions of Windows 7 Pro (64-bit). When I try to run CDStart.exe from a CD generated by the iso file linked to installing Windows AIK link at https://kb.acronis.com/content/46255 (specifically, http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5753 ) I get the error message below (on both machines!). What is happening here? Is there any way to make this work? I obviously need to be able to recover from these backups if I needed to do so.

Thanks!

“The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.”

Have you tried running the wAIKX86 or X64.msi ffile. I don't remember how I installed mine but I had no issues on WIN 7 Home Premium.

Thanks for the reply — yes, I did try the x64.msi file but all I got was an error saying that “The installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package. Go to sleep”

Perhaps your download is corrupt? Try a fresh one.

Bingo! I finally decided to repeat the ISO download late yesterday and the new DVD I burned from it worked just fine.
