Can't Delete Old Image Files

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to delete older partition image files after running a new backup image of them. I am getting the dialog: "The action can't be completed because the folder is open in COM Surrogate. Close the folder and try again." I don't know what COM Surrogate is nor where to find it to close the folder. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

Hello TOActor!

Thank you for finding time to share your experience with us. I entirely understand your concern and will be glad to assist you.

COM Surrogate is actually a fancy name for Sacrificial process for a COM object that is run outside of the process that requested it. I'd advise you to check this article for more details.

In this case I'd advise you to restart the process and try again to delete the file. Please open Windows Task Manager, enter processes and find there dllhost.exe process. Right click on it and choose: End process.

After that please try deleting the file again.

Should the issue persist, please contact Microsoft Support, since the file is being used by Windows process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Stopping the dllhost.exe process enabled me to delete the old backup .tib file. Thanks for the suggestion.

In Acronis

Go to Recovery =>
Click =>Browse for backup ( on right at top )
find the backup you want to delete => highlight selceted backup
click delete (red x at top left )
It's an egghaed problem like going to START to shutdown windows.

Thanks for this response. I just experienced this issue for the first time, with Acronis 2013.

Thank you Yana -- this worked for me too. "Please open Windows Task Manager, enter processes and find there dllhost.exe process. Right click on it and choose: End process."
