image backup naming
Back in DEcember I did a manual image backup which worked ok. (..full-b1-s1-v1)
I then setup a scheduled image backup for once a month.
First scheduled one seemed to be named properly (..full-b2-s1-v1)
but the second one happening right now is not. (..full-b2-s1-v1-2)
What does this mean? I assume each image backup would be fullbackup. But the naming is confusing.
Is this correct naming?
Will i have 3 full image bacckups or is one happenning now only incremental or something?

The 3rd image backup is happening as we speak. Its been going for 2.5 hrs and seems to have a long way to go yet. So suggests its going to be a full one.
Cant remember whether i modified the original manual one or setup new. However since first of the schedule ones seemed to named properly recognising the first manual one its a bit perplexing.
I have cleaned up a lot old incremental backups from my daily disk backups in last 3 days but cant see that having a effect.
Once it is finished i see if i can post a screenshot.

Malcolm,
If you want your backups to be only full backups, here is an example of a setting which I have found works.
Be sure and create a new task pointing to a new empty sub-folder. No mixing of tasks within the same storage folder.
Click on link #2 below and look at illustration figure 11-Full.
Adjust the number of backups to fit your own need.

Still did not answer the question: What is it?
Instead answered a lot of ways it may be created.
Apparently a slice is anything other than a full backup, i.e., a diff or inc, right?

A slice is an image either differential or incremental that forms part of a complete archive.
Are you still having the same problem over a year from first starting this thread?

I have a slightly different problem. I have done several backups on my external hard drive that my computer has designated K. This time when I plugged the same external drive in the computer it designated it as J, and when I try to start the backup Acronis looks for the K drive and can't find it and so it can't do a backup.

Remove the external hard drive.
Now , insert a flash drive or camera or something to consume the letter J.
When J is listed as in use, then attach the external disk.
In the future, before creating a new task, insert the target disk and use Windows Disk Management to assign a new and specific drive letter such as x or y or z and then create a new task which will point to the new drive letter disk.

Thank you for your help. I plugged an old flash drive in the computer, and it was designated (J), then I plugged in my external hard drive and it was designated (K) and I was able to backup. I really appreciate your help.
