Is this in Windows or when using the TI CD?

Usually, it's a driver issue when TI can't find a drive.

Hello there,
Thanks for replying. This is in Windows and my Win 7 can see it no problem. I can create folders etc no problem. However Acronis cannot see it
Thanks

Problem with Acronis TIH-2011 and external eSata HD (I noticed many of these problems on the forum, but not an answer yet).

On an older system (HP Pavilion DV7 Quad-8GB DDR3 - Win7 Home with latest SP) I usually made image backups with Acronis True Image 2011 Update 3 build 6942. An update check shows a newer build 8101 but also that 6942 is the latest build available for download (confusing!).
I'm quite willing to update to TIH version 2015 if Acronis is clear how to and without interruptions -AND- it solves my below problem.

For backups and succesfull restores (important to check !) I always used external USB2 HDD's.
Very time consuming, not an USB3 connector in this notebook, but lucky-me an even faster eSata connector on board.

So yesterday I received an eSata HDD bay and cable, mounted an internal notebook HDD and did my first check;
A simple Windows copy-paste of a 15 GB file took 5'40" to the eSata bay and 15'30" to an USB2 bay.
Not the expected difference of 10 times, but the HD's used were 2,5"-5200TMP and OK, a gain of 3 times.

I then started with an image backup to the eSata drive, as always from the bootable Acronis CD, never with a running Windows OS.
Acronis did see all available disks, also the eSata bay with the correct HD size (NTFS formatted !).

The backup started succesfully, but slowed down more and more and ended after many hours with the error "disk full".
The destination disk however was identical to the source disk, which was half half full and the Acronis backup also used a standard compression.
After a Windows reboot the destination disk appeared to be empty.

I hope Acronis support is watching my post too, comparable posts with related problems are too many to find a solution.

Thanks for reactions, Clemens

Greetings,
You are confusing ATIH v11 with ATIH 2011. These are actually different products.

Latest build v11 is 8101
Latest build 2011 is 6942 Update 3 (appears to be your product)

But on to your question. If used in windows, ATIH 2011 should support back up to eSATA using windows drivers for your controller. It might support back up using a boot CD as well. The fact that you saw your disks is usually a good sign.

Keep in mind that drive letters do change when viewed in the boot/recovery environment. Based on your post, we can state conclusively why the back up failed.

I would however, perform a chkdsk /r on the source drive to ensure file system integrity and confirm that its free space is being reported correctly. If in doubt, you can also verify the health of your new disk.

All of this aside, if you are on the fence about upgrading, you can download and try 2015 "bootable media" with your hardware for free. It has a 15 day limitation, but you can confirm if it will work with your hardware before purchase.
