How to stop new version pop-ups on my desktop?
I think I'm using version 2014 and I've been noticing lately that probably once a day I get a balloon on my desktop pushing me to upgrade to version 2015. I really don't want to pay more than I already paid since this update is not free.
How do I stop these pop-ups?
PS. Note to Acronis: I didn't really sign up for commercials to be popping up on my desktop!

Someone needs to address this. I just discovered that if I click on this upgrade popup (hoping that there's an option to make it stop annoying me) I eventually had to close it since it does not give me an option other than paying their upgrade fee. So what I discovered is that it doesn't close gracefully and the Acronis process continues hogging the CPU. In my particular example, I run it on an Intel i7 CPU with 8 cores and it was continuously consuming about 15%. Here's a screenshot:
So the only way to make it "behave" is to kill that process.
Is there a way to contact their tech support about this?

The process you refer to is not responsible for the notification. You are referring to the main program and 15.5% CPU load is actually pretty good. The program responsible for the notification is Acronis True Image Monitor which in your case has a CPU load of 0%.

OK. Then that's another issue. Can you check if yours also runs at that CPU usage level? I left it running for, idk, about an hour or so hoping that it would "calm down" but it was still running at 15%... so I had to kill it.
PS. To replicate it, open the main Acronis program. I just typed "Acronis" from the main Windows 8 screen and ran it. Then simply close it. After that the CPU usage for that process keeps at that level for me.

If I close TI the process TrueImage.exe is also closed. It seems that in your case TI is doing something in the background (non-stop backup?, scheduled back-up?), because in your process list it also shows disk activity of 4.6 MB/s. You should check that. There must be an explanation for this activity.
BTW: you are only entitled to free support from Acronis for I believe 30 (or maybe 60) after your purchase. Then you have to pay per incident or ask other users on this forum. I've always felt that to be a bad deal, especially with a tool like this. Moreover, Acronis does not intensively respond on this forum. There are however some very knowledgeable contributors who contribute very frequently.

Hmm, mine doesn't close. Well, the window disappears but the process keeps hogging the CPU. I'm curious now if it updates itself in the background like Chrome does?
Jeez, I didn't know that their support sucks so much. If I knew I would've never paid for this product.

TI does not perform background updates. Updates always have to be done manually.
I suggest you start a new post about this subject. That way contributors who may know more about this may respond. With the current thread title I doubt whether they will read your question. Unfortunately I do not know enough about TI to have any idea why your process keeps running and using the disk.

Can we get back to the original question?
How do we stop the annoying popups about the new version?

The annoying popups can be stopped by customising the notification area icons as shown in the attached PNG file..

Thanks. I'm not sure if just hiding it like that would do the job. Blocking it via the host file worked me:
