How do I stop these constant "Purchase 2015 Upgrade" prompts?

Thread needs solution

uninstall the program. will make you stop getting those popups.....

Maybe uninstalling is the only fix. If all is needed is a encrypted/password-protected drive-imaging program, consider Norton Ghost - it seems to be very reliable for this purpose.

I have been corresponding with one of Acronis Indian support staff on this question.

He has recommended that the task "TrueImageMonitor.exe" be disabled in the startup list.

This does solve the problem for me.

However, the rep is supremely UN-knowledgeable and has not been able to explain in any detail WHAT "TrueImageMonitor.exe" has been doing running in the startup list all these years. It has never generated upgrade msgs before. What else is it supposed to do? What functionality is lost by disabling this task?

probably all the notifications...
and wow.... if they don't even know themselves..
Maybe it's a Trojan, that sucks your data slowly.....

This is the last response I received from the support rep when I queried as to what functions "TrueImageMonitor.exe" supported:

=============
Thank you for your email. I like to inform you that we do not have such detailed documentation of the functions which will be removed after disabling the TrueImageMonitor.exe.

However I assure you that the the notifications messages as pop-up in the system tray in terms of backups, recovery, update, error, warning interaction message will not be display.

You would be able to see the progress of the tasks in the software console with green color progress bar.

I think that "disabling TrueImageMonitor" (in total as an application) is the worst of the choices to deal with the marketing pop-ups because it disables other notifications that the user may want to see. Just disabling the "tray notification" has also been reported (numerous times) as not preventing the popups for many that tried it.

The best solution to this problem has always been to prevent TrueImageMonitor.exe from calling home to Acronis and triggering the update/upgrade notifications every time the PC is booted. That simply requires either putting a block on the TrueImageMonitor.exe file outbound/inbound communications via a firewall rule, or using the simple one line argument in the "Hosts" file as described within this thread. For anyone that is being bugged by this thing I'd recommend (2) things:

1. Don't contact Acronis because it is a waste of your good time. They apparently don't know what to do about it after weeks of customer complaints.
2. Use one of the two methods that have been shared within this thread and put an end to the pop-ups.

Removing the TI software is also a route to take, but if you also own TI2014, my thought is use it and get your value from it. I don't think that True Image customers should have to abandon something they paid for just because the company either can't or won't stop the marketing pop-ups. Let Acronis feel the heat of not getting new revenues (ala avoiding TI2015, etc) and warn your friends not to buy TI2015. That is an answer that Acronis may not like, but in the absence of helping/talking to their customers, they also have to live with the consequences of their action/inaction.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your comments!

Notifications "New version is available on Acronis website" may rarely appear to ensure all customers, who have not tried the new version yet, can get a possibility to easily upgrade to Acronis True Image 2015 for the best price available.

If you don't want to see these notifications you can:

  • disable all notifications from Acronis True Image (including notification about backup start, backup progress etc.) by following this guide

or

  • disable notifications only about updates/new versions by editing Windows hosts file (please send me a PM to get a relevant script)

(!) Do not disable TrueImageMonitor.exe because it might affect other program functions (such as monitoring backup progress etc.)

Thank you.
