Backup of system only

Thread needs solution

Hallo,

on C:/ I have stored system, users and data, like most people do. All this is also included in my backup. Is it possible (and how) to backup only system and users excluding all or parts of the data files? I don't need the data to be backuped and so I could reduce the amount of GB drastically.

It still should be possible to restore the system on the same or a different hardware.

Thanks for your comments!
Willi

An easy way to do this is to exclude the C:\users\Johnny\FOLDER X, Y or Z folder from the backup.
You could consider creating a partition on your disk for all the content. You can create a partition easily with a free tool like Easus partition manager. Then you would change the default location of your documents, video, pictures, music folders to that partition. This way you are left with a partition with the system, apps, and a partition with your content.
You would backup your system partition and any hidden partition with Acronis true image. The recommended action is to create a whole disk backup but to exclude all folders and content from the content partition.
You would use sync software to backup your content, or use Windows file history, for example.

Thanks a lot, this will help me very much. I did not know about the possibility of excluding files or folders. This is perfect for me.

Moving the data to a new partition of course would solve the problem even more perfect, but I think this would be a critical action because links would no more be valid after moving.

Thanks again and bye

If it was me, I'd do a full disk backup before any other action. Then move the data directories, then do another backup of the now sleaker system disk. Disk space is inexpensive security these days ;)
