Trying to restore my Windows 7 to an earlier stage with a *.tib file
Dear friends,
I have been carrying incremental backups of different sorts from the moment I purchased this program.
Tons of terabites in different external USB HDD...
Now I have a serious problem with my computer (that started many months ago, but it is getting worse with time).
The thing is that the computer crashes without warning, specially playing games and it is not a hardware problem. With Windows fsc /scannow I get many corrupt windows files, and have been told to do a clean windows installation.... What a joke, when I have SO MANY *.tib files that can restore my computer to an earlier date. Well, the problem is that Acronis will not accept any *.tib file I want (or at least I don't know how to do it); always backing up and never restoring... As I open Acronis I get the latest backups I have made, but none of the earlier versions. EG. I have *.tib files from a week ago, but none of say January 2014, which by the way is the one I want to restore the system to. I have its location on the external HDD, size and all details, but it is not on the list when I start Acronis. So the question is simple, how do I restore that *.tib file so my computer returns to as it was in January 2014? Of course I won't keep it like that, but want to make sure that with that configuration, the computer does not crash constantly as it is doin now.... If it does, that means that I have other problems, probably hardware, that are creating that very annoying situation.
Best regards,
Charles

I have its location on the external HDD, size and all details, but it is not on the list when I start Acronis.
The easiest way and cleanest way for the Jan 2014 backup to appear on the list is to attach the external disk containing the Jan 2014 backup and use the method shown in my GH21 link below.
Highlight all the files associated with that specific full backup before telling TI what to add to the backup list.
Another method is to attach the external and tell TI to browse for ALL backup and that will add all the backups which is on the disk to your listing of backups.
The above is for a Windows Recovery which is NOT my recommended method of recovering a system partition.
The recommended and preferrred (by most MVP's) method of restoring a system disk to new or old disk is to use the TI Recovery CD
and perform the restore when booted from the TI Recovery CD. This makes the restore without Windows involved.
After booting the CD, you will need to browse to the external disk and select the Jan 2014 tib fil so the program knows where to find in order to perform the restore.
My signature link #3 can be of help. Item 2 within that link illutstrates how to perform a disk restore.
