Custom backup models management very crapy

Thread needs solution

Hi,

Just bought ATIH 2015.

Following the user guide instructions, I created custom backup models for use among all my backups.

So, I recorded one model and named it "model 1" for instance.

If I try to change the model of another backup, "model 1" does not appear in the models list (where is it?).

What I can see, we can create models, name them, but we cannot find these names anymore.

More, I you create a model with the the same name as another one you created before, you cannot overwrite the previous one, you can only change the name of the new one or cancel...

And of course, you cannot delete a backup model you created (no way to do that, so the limit of 16 models will be reached very rapidly...)

So, what is written in the user guide about models is completely missing in the software...

Well done, Acronis...

So, seriously, when do you expect to fix this? It is a pity to see a very basic function like this not working...

Thanks.

Patrice

I'll try that and see what happens for me.

Patrice,

Would you mind pointing me to where in the 2015 TIH help file this is discussed. I seem to be overlooking it. Thanks.

Hi Groveh,
This is described in pages 51 and 52 of the user guide (pdf)
In the help file: backup options >> backup models >> customized models (not sure in english, in french "modèles personnalisés")
Thanks.
Patrice

Patrice,

What you refer to as "Backup Models" is referred in to English version as "Backup Schemes" so we are talking about how the mix of backup types is configured and saved as custom schemes and how many custom schemes can be saved are selected in future task creation.

In my observation, the 2014 had the same limitation of 16 in number but saving the schemes worked and prior saved custom schemes were accessible for selection when creating more new tasks. This needs fixing.

As a backup is created from a backup task and that task can have any manual combination of backup schemes possible, the limit for custom tasks (16) has never been posted as an issue in any of the prior versions. Most users do not save any custom tasks or very few anyway so the chance of getting limit of 16 expanded is very slim due to it affecting too few users.

I'm not aware of any limit of how many backup tasks can be created and each task allows for any combination of backup scheme settings for that task, so the limit of 16 is an artificial limit and any limit could not handle the number of possible custom backup schemes. As any custom task is possible without a pre-saved combination, this limit of 16 has no real affect except to cause the user to create their custom custom backup scheme for each any scheme not covered by the 16.

The limit of 16 is mostly artificial as any combination of backup scheme is possible in any given task. In my observation of past postings, few users have indicated using the custom named "custom backup schemes".

Most certainly there needs to be a fix so that the custom tasks are saved and re-selectable when creating later tasks so that 2015 is at least is as workable as 2014. The save custom task is there but it is not saved even when the save choice is made and this needs fixing.

I believe a fix for custom named "custom backups" being re selectable for future tasks is the best we can hope for, in my opinion.

Hi Groverh,
Thanks for explanations.
I don't care about the limit, 16 is Ok. The problem is custom schemes management.
Patrice.

Hello Patrice,

I've reported the problem to development. Thank you for thorough description!

Grover, Colin, thank you very much for helping!
