Recovering to Hyper V using ABR 10 Advanced Server Virtual Edition

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I want to restore backup image of a server to vhd file so as to host it in a Hyper V server. I couldn’t find hyper v format in VM type menu when I want to recover it to a New Virtual Machine.
Can I use Microsoft Virtual PC format to generate a VHD file for Hyper V? Or is there another better option to recover image backup to hyper v.
I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 and have the latest build of ABR 10.

Many Thanks

Hello IMECO IMECO and Drew Green,

Thank you very much for your posts. I would like to apologize for not replying earlier but I will definitely assist you wit this.

We do not have the ability to convert image files to Hyper V however, I can suggest 2 workarounds.

1. You can use Acronis Backup and Recovery Bootable CD together with Acronis Universal Restore and restore the image directly to the Hyper V virtual machine. You will need to provide the virtual machine's drivers for Acronis Universal Restore in order for this operation to succeed. I would recommend using the following guide from our Knowledge Base to recover backups to dissimilar hardware using Acronis Universal Restore.

2. You can also try using Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Advanced Server Virtual Edition. After installing the Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Agent for Hyper-V, you can then restore the image by selecting the option, change Vm type and selecting another option called - "Place on the virtualization server that I select" from the recover data menu. Please check this article that shows what virtual machine hosts Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Advanced Server Virtual Edition supports.

By the way IMECO IMECO, I can see from our database that you have a valid support license, please feel free to contact our tech support who will guide you through this process.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.
