Acronis 11 boot CD fails to run full backup

Thread needs solution

I have Ver 11 8101 and using Vista. My PC boots OK from the boot CD but it won't do a backup. When running in Windows, my external USB hard drive is K: but when I'm running Acronis from the boot CD the hard drive is E: I don't know if this is part of the problem. Can tou give me the detailed steps to follow when backing up with the CD boot disk?

It is normal for your Linux Rescue CD to assign drive letters differently than Windows. Just be sure you assign a volume name to your drives so you can identify them by their names or description and do not use drive letters because they apples and oranges comparison.

Check item 7A in my signature index below. Perhaps the guides can assist. There is very little difference in performing a backup via the CD as compared to a backup from within Windows. Be sure and validate your backup while booted from the Rescue CD.

I tried doing a backup of partition D: of my hard disk after starting the PC from the rescue CD.
I selected D: because it had only 7GB of data in it. It took 14 minutes. This is very slow considering that it only took 40 minutes to do a total backup of my hard disk with 100GB of data when running when from Windows.
I was not able to access the data after I completed the partition backup. I get an error message, backup is corrupted or it is used by another process, for example the backup has been mounted as a disk.
Can you shed any light on this situation.

I don't know but is it possible that some time previously, you had mounted the D partition for purposes of examining or copying some files and then did not unmount the drive; and maybe you did a backup of the mount. I realize this is wild but is it a possibility?

Inside Windows, use the Windows Disk Management option and look at your disk and see if you have anything mounted.

I'm not even able to do a full backup which I start from Windows now. My version 11 may be corrupted. How do I go about downloading it and reinstalling it?

Start the V11 install program and at the very beginning, se if you are offered a repair option, then either choose this option
or choose the install option and install another copy of V11 overtop the existing v11 install.

I don't have a V11 installation CD because I upgraded over the internet from Acronis.
How do I go about downloading over the internet and installing?

If you have the downloaded installation file, that will suffice. The name of it is this or something very similar.

TrueImage11_s_en.exe

If you do not have the original download file, then hopefully you registered your purchase with Acronis. Go to your Acronis Website registration page. (This link may work)

and download a new copy of v11. You may as well download the additional safe version and bartPe so you have them. Once you repair or install a new copy, you can create a new REscue CD and place the Safe version on the CD to accompany the normal Full version placed on the CD. Write your serial number on the new V11 CD.

The safe mode download is a separate install after your repair or install a new copy of v11.

Thank you very much for all of your help. You have answered all of my questions. The proof of the pudding will be in the restore if I ever have the occasion to use it.

Robert,
Please don't make the mistake of waiting until there is a crisis before you verify that your restore will work as planned. Use another test disk and restore your system and then boot the new drive. Make sure the results are what you want now when you can rectify the cause of any error.
