This morning my win 7 box started an explorer restart loop right after starting it up. Killed the acronis startups and bingo stable machine. I have put up with the hangs, lockups and loooooong image mount times. This product is majorly dorked up.

Uninstalled... back to ghost

Let me help you with this issue.

Most probably, this issue was caused by Acronis SnapAPI driver, it is responsible for all input/output operations with the hard disk of Acronis software working in Windows. It also allows to create backups under running Windows with an unlimited number of files open for reading and writing without the necessity to reboot the computer.

Because of the latest major changes in Windows 7 native snapshot driver (VolSnap), there were some modifications introduced in Acronis True Image Home 2010. The Acronis native snapshot driver (snapman) was moved from UpperFilters to LowerFilters to avoid conflicts with VolSnap (which could have lead to backups failure or data corruption in backups). This change may sometimes manifest itself in a freezing/rebooting Windows 7 operating system on machines with some certain software and hardware configurations.

To fix the issue, you need to install a special driver update with fixes on the machine:

Isn't it about time you issue an update to the software? Do you even realize that people are downloading a buggy software for trial? What kind of impression do you think trial users are getting?

This looks like the same problem I have, where (since installing True Image Home 2010 two days ago on my Vista 32-bit machine) I can not click on any file in Explorer without Explorer crashing. Thus I can't rename, move or delete files.

Is there a fix for this? I am uncertain about using a Windows 7 fix as above, without checking first.

No, (a) True Image doesn't appear in StartUp, and (b) if I right-click StartUp in Start-Programs the bug hits and Explorer crashes.
The error started at the same moment I installed TIH2010 (looking at the error log).

Sometimes there are items that start that do not show in Startup. You have to type msconfig in a command prompt. Then click the Startup tab.

In detail, this is the way to do it (for anyone else who wants to try):
Start button
Run
Type: msconfig [enter]
Wait… for System Configuration menu to appear
Click Startup tab
Untick:
- Acronis TrueImage
- Acronis Scheduler Helper
Click [Apply]
Then restart computer

Sadly, it didn’t work!

A complete uninstall of ATI2010 with (of course) antivirus turned off, plus reinstall from a fresh download, followed by a second install of SnapAPI503 seems to have sorted my Windows Explorer recycle problem. I also rebooted the PC at each stage.

Perhaps the message is: Don’t give up!
