File Ownership Issues on Mounted Image (Acronis TrueImage 2014)

Thread needs solution

Hello

I am having an issue with accessing a folder (a users folder in the Windows USERS directory ie \USERS\JOHNDOE) in windows 8.1x64, from a mounted image created by Acronis TrueImage 2014.

The error is one related to ownership.

YOU DON'T CURRENTLY HAVE PERMISSION TO ACCESS THIS FOLDER. CLICK CONTINUE TO PERMANENTLY GET ACCESS TO THIS FOLDER.

When I click enter, I get :

YOU HAVE BEEN DENIED PERMISSION TO ACCESS THIS FOLDER.

The account I am using is a superuser account, or at least has superuser privileges.

I have googled and came up with the following :

ACRONIS SITE
https://kb.acronis.com/content/1549

Which linked me too :

MICROSOFT SITE
http://support2.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308421

Unfortunately it is for Windows XP, and I wanted something a little more current in case there are issues.

Also when I try to change the security information directly (via the security tab) everything is greyed out, so I am at a loss what to do ?

I very much need to recover the data from that image and would appreciate help :)

BTW I understand why this is happening ie the folder was for a user of a different system (albeit with the same name) so its SID (is that right) is different and therefore the folder is not accessible. I assume will I have to use administrator privileges to force the folder to be accessible to me, either that or tell acronis somehow to strip access information? IDK?

Dichotomy,

Don't mount the archive.
You can browse the archive by double-clicking the TIB file in Windows Explorer without the permissions and ownership getting in the way.

@Enchantech and @Joey

THANKYOU BOTH!!!!!!!

@Joey
I did not know that. Thankyou this is a good tip.

@Enchantech
Thankyou for this. Am reading it now.

Will let you know how it all goes.

Thanks again

OK Tried both solutions.

@Joey - Worked flawlessly thanks.

@Enchantech - Followed the instructions, but does not allow me to alter the ownership of the folder ie STEP 2 (for windows 8) after selecting CHANGE, nothing happens and I cannot type in or otherwise alter the owners name. Well anyway Joey's solution worked so I am content to try and fail on this one ;) Thanks anyway though for your help.
