2 TB disc clone to 3 TB disc

Thread needs solution

I have a 2 TB disc that I want to clone to a 3 TB disc. From what I read the full 3 TB will not be seen because of MBR formatting and the remaining space will have to be another partition with a different drive letter. Is there anyway I can have the 3 TB disc formatted to the full 3 TB. I heard if the 3 TB disc is formatted GPT it will show as one 3 TB disc. If. I first format the 3 TB disc using GPT can I then clone the old 2 TB disc on it? Will it cause read/write problems. Thanks.

I have the Windows 8.1 Pro on a seperate 240 gig SSD SO THERE WILL BE NO OPERATING SYSTEM ON THE DISC.

Is the original disk GPT or MBR? If MBR then convert to gpt then backup and restore to the new drive.
If already GPT then backup and restore to the new drive.

I wouldn't reisk the catastropic errors possible with cloning. I'd use backup and restore.

The manual covers going to and from GPT & MBR drives.

Note that if you want to use GPT drive you have to have your UEFI BIOS set to UEFI otherwise the motherboard will not be able to start the bootstrap on the disk and boot the Ooperating system.
