Acronis True Image 2011, Build 6942 could not be installed
I am having problems installing Acronis True Image 2011, build 6942.
I am running Windows 7 (64-bit) Home Premium Edition (Build 7601) SP1
My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5739G
The error message I get, after trying to install is:
The installation was interrupted before Acronis True Image 2011 could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again.
Could anyone please help me? I’ve already read and tried several of the suggestions for this error, but I can’t figure it out.
Toward the bottom of the highly bloated, 3.41 MB install_log.txt file, it says:
We strongly recommend that you perform the update manually. For more information on how to perform this operation, please follow the instructions at http://kb.acronis.com/content/14342.
But this only contains outdated and invalid information, because it is written for those who are trying to install build 5041 and it’s advising one to upgrade to build 6868.
Again, I’m trying to install build 6942.
I am attaching the error message and install_log.txt file.
First, the Check for Updates fails with the error:
“Error occurred while connecting to update server”.
So I manually checked online and found that that is the newest version, so that’s not the problem.
I downloaded the eXpress CheckSum Calculator and used it to make sure that the checksums coincide. They did. So that is not the problem.
After the installation failed several times, I even downloaded a fresh installation file and verified the checksums, but even that failed.
I have cleaned out all the temporary files.
I have run the Acronis Cleanup Utility 2015.
I have disabled my anti-virus program.
I have right-clicked on the setup file and chosen “Run as Administrator”.

Thanks, GroverH, but it didn't work. I had already tried that version before I tried the 2015 version, but I hadn't noticed the "specific instructions for me to perform", so thanks for pointing that out--if you meant by that what it said about the upper and the lower filters. (Please tell me what you did mean if you meant something else.)
I followed those instructions by doing a search and found those files listed elsewhere (but not where they said to look), and deleted those entries. Nevertheless, the results were still the same; it still didn't install. Then I did it again, and this time, did an msconfig and disabled all the startup programs, including my anti-virus, but it still would not install.
Any more suggestions?
I am attaching the install_log_2.txt file for this one, because it's different than last time.

yes, the special insructions called for the deletion of the data inside the upper and lower filters,
but it did NOT call for the deletion of the filters themselves.
At this point, you could rerun the older cleanup files.
Empty the temp file %temp@
Restart the install file as Run as Administ rator.
Did you ever have 2011 installed in the past?
Other than the above, I don't know what more I can assist.

Yes, I have had 2011 installed in the past. Back in April, I Beta Tested Acronis 2015, so I uninstalled 2011 before I could install the 2015 Beta. Then, when I was finished beta testing, I uninstalled the 2015 Beta, and left it until now. I finally remembered to attempt to re-install 2011, but now I'm having all the above troubles.
When I tried following your instructions before making my last post, I used both of the Acronis Cleanup Utilities, and followed all the steps in my first post, with the exception that I searched in the registry for those filters and removed them wherever they popped up. I even used msconfig to disable all the startup programs, including the anti-virus program.
Then, upon reading this post from you, it dawned on me that there may be some left over Acronis folders, so I found them, both of which were in the C:\Windows folders, and removed them. There was nothing inside of either of them, though, and the utility was so good, it deleted all the left over files and folders--except for those two.
It still wouldn't install, and I got the same error messages.

Can you post a screen capture of these two registry locations so we can see what data is currently listed in them?

Barry,
I notice from your install_log2.txt that TI is attempting to install to the AdministrativeAccount. Is this an account that you have set up as your user account?
Does an earlier build install?
What is drive 'Z' ?
The log seems to indicate that the installer believes it is upgrading from an earlier build or version, is that correct, it also seems to indicate it is using a trial serial number, is that correct?
Have you tried installing to a different partition/drive if possible?
I think 2011 allows the MSI installer to be extracted from the Acronis wrapper, to extract, right click on the 'install' option on the install splash screen and select extract. Note where the MSI file is being extracted, close down the Acronis installer and try installing direct from the MSI installer.
Make sure you disable InCD or Drag2Disk if you have them installed, ensure your video driver is up to date, disconnect any external hubs and card readers if possible.
The installer reports failure quite early on, but I'm unsure on what the text is referring to.
Is your copy of Windows the one provided with your laptop?
If you have another user set up on your laptop, you could also try installing from the other user account, and selecting 'All Users' for the install type. In fact if you selected only you as the user, it will be worth trying an 'all user' install.
I've just noticed where you enter the serial number the serial checker reports a failure, but I'm unsure why.

GroverH! I'm sorry, I don't get notices by e-mail on this site that anyone answers my post, so I didn't know until now, when I'm searching for a fix for another problem and I stumbled onto this--my own post--and find that you HAVE sent a reply. I'm sorry, but because you wrote: "Other than the above, I don't know what more I can assist" I thought I wasn't going to get a reply, so I did a factory reset and re-installed everything.
You're asking if I deleted snapman*, fltsrv, tdrpman*, vidsflt*, timounter strings in those keys. I did. It didn't work. I don't know what the problem was, and I don't think there was a fix, so I did the factory reset because all of my Acronis Backups had that in it, and I had already deleted the earlier backups.
Now the problem I'm experiencing is that when it installed, it took a VERY LONG time to install, and I thought it was going to give me the same error. But it didn't. However, now, I'm having another problem. The "Try and Decide" feature doesn't work.
First, it tells me that it will not startup with "Acronis Startup Recovery Manager" and "Nonstop Backup" is working. It never used to say that.
Well, I disabled the "Acronis Startup Recovery Manager", and I've never used "Nonstop Backup", but it didn't work.
Now, I used to get a message that said it was because "Nonstop Backup" was working, when it wasn't, and there was an error number. However, now that I could finally get around to making this post, when I try to run it again, all that happens is that a popup window opens that simply says: "Failed to start "Try & Decide".
I have tried to start "Nonstop Backup" and then turn it off, but that doesn't work. I get the same error messages--both then and now.
Do you have a solution to the problem? I would appreciate whatever input you (or anyone else reading this) can provide.

Colin B! Thank you for answering my post! I’m sorry but I haven’t answered it until now, but as I’ve just told GroverH, I didn’t receive any e-mails telling me anyone had answered my post.
You were asking some good questions, so I’ll answer them:
1) The AdministrativeAccount is what I named that particular account. In my new setup, I’m calling it the AdministrativeUser. Since Microsoft has disabled the Administrator Account (and they say it’s not a good idea to use it anyway, even if you can get it working) I have setup that account to do all my installing and repair work. When I go to my “Barry” account, or the accounts for my daughter and her son, none of us see those “administrative programs”, such as Acronis True Image, and Acronis Disk Director, and all the other utility programs I have. That way, nobody else but me can make changes to my laptop.
2) Drive “Z” is the flash drive that I use for storing all my installation programs. I have set the drive letters for all of my flash drives—and each of the three partitions on my external hard drive with unique drive letters, so that each time I plug them in, they are always going to have the same drive letter. I started with Z and went backwards, so my 3 flash drives are Z, Y, and X, and my external hard drive is U, T, and S. V is reserved for the flash drive I have misplaced.
3) I wasn’t using a trial serial number. I am an account holder. I purchased the product, so I was using the same serial number that was given to me when I purchased the product, which I obtained from the website.
4) Good suggestion about the MSI installer, but that is what I was doing. It didn’t work. Thank you for the suggestion, though.
5) I don’t have either “InCD” or “Drag2Disk”.
6) I disconnected everything except the flash drive Z, which contained the installation program.
7) I have not re-installed Windows, so yes, the copy of Windows IS the one that came with the laptop. It is Windows 7 Home Premium, and the laptop is an Acer Aspire 5739G, with original equipment.
8) I did try installing it from one of the other accounts, my own, and it didn’t work.
But thank you. It was a good suggestion. Too bad it didn’t work!
9) About the serial number failing. When I start the installation program, it tells me “Checking for a new version”. Then it changes to “Error occurred while connecting to the update server”. Do you think Acronis has shut down the server for the 2011 version? Would that make a difference? Could that be why some of the system’s programs don’t work properly? For example, the Backup program doesn’t work Online, but it does from the Startup Recovery Disk. The Online version is always corrupted. Is this one of those programs that communicates with the provider company’s server and doesn’t work if the server does something that disables it?

It is possible that Acronis have removed the link to the 2011 update facility, but it should make no difference to the installation of TI, and of course b6942 is the latest build for 2011.
I would re-download from your account build 6942, extract the MSI file and then try installing again from that.
