Can't Copy a Mounted File
I gave up on trying to recover with the full image. Now I'm trying to copy files after mounting the image. When I mount the image it asks for read or r/w. If I do read it assign s a drive letter and I can open the folders. When I try to copy a file it says file is write protected. Why should it matter I'm only reading it. So I go back and select r/w...then it says can't assign a drive letter to a backup archive. Any thoughts.
I've got it at build 3854...at least that's what it says in the add/remove programs. If I go to Help and do About it says 3633.

Instead of using the Mount feature, treat the Image as a folder and open it with Windows Explorer. In other words, 2-click on the .tib and drill down to where your file is.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've been through all that.
There is no Explore...only meaningful buttons are Open and Mount. Open option provides Acronis as only workable option. Folder OPtions has Acronis as program to open .tib files. You can't use anything else that will work. Windows Explorer works on the MOunted image but when you try copy or drag and drop you get various errors. I tried dragging and dropping normal files from the external HDD and they copy w/o issue. So, the mount function is not working as described. I'm going to try loading ATI 11.0 on another PC and see what happens.

Basically same reply as prior...if i open the external HDD with Windows Explorer I get to the .tib image. Can't drill down because Windows forces you to open a .tib file with Acronis. If you select Notepad...message of file too big is rec'd. Any other option produces no activity.
The .tib must be mounted to treat it as a regular file.
I don't understand why an I/O error as other files copy OK.

Have you tried uninstalling TI and reinstalling? The fact that you're getting different build numbers in different places makes me wonder if the install is corrupted.
What OS are you using?

Yes, I've uninstalled it several times. made sure the latest build was had.
XP on working PC.
I did a workaround and got the pst file off the image, loaded it on to a thumb drive and then into the working PC. Did a pst recovery and even though it said 711mb when I did an open folder in Outlook it showed empty.
I managed to get a major portion of my files off with a bootable recovery disc. All I've lost is my complete Outlook which was maxed out. I've spent far too much time chasing this pest. I'll bite the bullet and do a clean install and copy over what I can. I surely have learned a lot about recovery and doing an Image backup. One thing for sure is I will VALIDATE any image I back up. One other thing that disturbs me greatly is the fact that I purchased ATI based on all the reviews that said it was #1. I can't believe all the problems that I've read about ATI installations. I wonder if I should entertain another product because of this. I surely don't want to go through this again. Support scares me. I know the economy is bad and companies cut back but to have a product and all the support there is coming from a forum seems a bit shy of desirable.

Your PST file might show up as empty as the file will have the wrong permissions attached to it as far as the other machine is concerned.
I suspect either Windows Explorer files and folders associations are incorrect or TI didn't hook into Explorer in the first place. As Mudcrab said the fact you are getting different Acronis versions points to a corrupted install/registry entries.
When you uninstalled did you try running the Acronis file remover utility and rebooting inbetween uninstall and re-install?

Hello all!
Dear Ed, thank you for bringing this question up and many thanks to bodgy, MudCrab, DwnNDrty and GroverH for kind assistance.
I just wanted to add that I agree that this issue looks more like a corrupted installation: you are using Acronis True Image Home 11, and help sections shows you 3633 build (Add and Remove shows 3854) while the latest build of 11 version if 8101. This could have occurred due to different reasons, most probably you have installed Acronis True Image Home 11 over the previous version and it caused mess in the registry and drivers. In order to resolve the issue let's start from the reinstallation first:
- Please go to Add and Remove programs and uninstall Acronis software you have
- Uninstall Acronis Scheduling Service and run the Clean Up utility as mentioned in this article
- Install the product onto the clear system (I have sent you the download link for the latest build via PM)
I would appreciate if you could kindly validate the image before mounting it again and let us know the following:
- With what version was the image created (11 or 9)?
- Does it give you any error on validating?
- Size of the archive
Also please mind that no writing and copying processes are available in the read-only mode.
I would appreciate if you could kindly keep us posted. Be sure we will do our best to help!
Thank you.
