Acronis & Win7

Thread needs solution

I'm really at a loss to understand Acronis.

On the Win 7 compatibility site it says Disk Director works with Win7, tried to load it on my upgraded machine only to be confronted with the message that Win 7 is not supported.

I am really pee'd off with this - what are we meant to do

Oh and another thing, just how much are Acronis going to fleece us poor mugs when they eventually work out how to get DD working with Win 7

The last build of DD 10 (2,239) doesn't support being installed in Windows 7. However, you can still use DD from the DD CD as long as you understand that partitioning changes will not reflect the new alignment standard used by Vista and Windows 7.

We won't know the price for DD 11 until it's released, but I would think there would be a discount for the upgrade version.

Though not officially supported, you can install build 2,160 of DD 10 in Windows 7. If you don't have that build, you can request it from Acronis. See this post by Acronis Support.

You hit the nail on the head; "you can still use DD from the DD CD as long as you understand that partitioning changes will not reflect the new alignment standard used by Vista and Windows 7"

It may be possible to run 'unapproved' versions on Win 7 but I have no intention of possibly damaging my installation by trying it.

I may well be wrong, but the overiding impression I have about Acronis is that it is an organisation paranoid about piracy and very keen to charge (and overcharge) thier very lifeblood CUSTOMERS. I say this because of the nature of the error message that appears when to try to load DD on Win 7.

I would also like very much to know my Acronis charges server users 10 times as much as stand alone users for what is basically the same program.

Hello all,

Here are most recent updates on the topic from our Product Management and Development Teams.

First of all Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 is not planned to be updated. That means it will not support Windows 7 any time in Future.

Second - a successor to DD10 is currently being worked on. We should get Beta version in the nearest future. Unfortunately I cannot elaborate on the scope of features of the new product at the moment due to strict company policy but I do hope you will like it.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Andrey.
