Server 2012 DeDup (OS Side)

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I found reference in the documentation that if Windows Server 2012 Dedup is enabled (within the OS). That Acronis cannot do file level restore successfully.

In my testing I have found that if i restore a deduped file to a different host, the file is not complete.

If I restore a deduped file to the same host partition it is complete.

Can you provide specific rules for which this will or wont work?

I have many servers utilizing Server 2012 Dedup.

In last versions (since Update 1 Hotfix 3, build 39795, but reflected in user guide only since Update 4), it is described as following -
File-level backup is supported, except when using Acronis VSS Provider.
If system ( = Microsoft) VSS provider is used, restore should work.

You can back up and recover a data deduplication–enabled volume at a disk level, without limitations. File-level backup is supported, except when using Acronis VSS Provider. To recover files from a disk backup, mount the backup on a machine running Windows Server 2012, and then copy the files from the mounted volume.
