Build 6053 Hangs Windows 7

Thread needs solution

Oleg, how about releasing a new update to ATI2010 that resolves this once and for all (among other bugs).

Oleg wrote:

Hello all,

I understand this is a major issue for you considering you can't use Acronis True Image Home 2010 of build #6053 under Windows 7, I will help you get this fixed.

Because of the latest major changes in Windows Vista and Windows 7 native snapshot driver (VolSnap), there were some modifications introduced in Acronis True Image Home 2010 (starting from Build 6029). The Acronis native snapshot driver (snapman) was moved from UpperFilters to LowerFilters to avoid conflicts with VolSnap (which could have lead to backups failure or data corruption in backups). This change may sometimes manifest itself in a freezing Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system on machines with rare software and hardware configurations.

To solve the issue, install a special driver update with fixes on the machine:

Download SnapAPI Build 503;

- Unpack it and install with Disabled logging.

- Reboot the computer to complete the changes.

Please let us know the results. Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

Oleg, should we just install the new snapAPI drivers, or wait for the hang to occur? I installed this before, but now I am running Windows 7 RTM. Should I assume it will be the same, or wait and see?
Is there anything you can tell us about which configurations are likely to need the fix?

New Special Driver Update doesn’t work

Hello all

I just installed the new special driver update (presented by Oleg Tue, 2010-01-05 14:23).
and let run the TIH 2010 on Win 7 64bit after a restart of the system.
The problem still keeps remaining. After a certain while the Win 7 is hanging!
So no change could be recognize :-((

So far, I have not had any major problems since using snapapi503. I have the feeling that there might be issues if I done anything to modify the default backup but I let it go and it completed ok.

Sorry for the double post -- I posted this in Hot Issues by mistake...

The problem with Acronis TI 2010 hanging that many people have reported is not fixed by installing SnapAPI 3.8.503!!!! I followed the instructions posted on this forum to uninstall the previous version and to install the 503 version, and nothing changes -- it still hangs.

After initially installing TI 2010 I was able to make a couple of backups, but then it began hanging. Like many have reported, a forced power off and reboot is required.

I tried using different backup drives, tried stand alone backup using the bootable media, plus anything else I could think of and nothing helped. The only thing left to try was reconfiguring my RAID-0 volume as independent disks. After that I was able to do a few backups, so I wrote off the problem as being a conflict with RAID. However, I am now back to the point where I cannot complete any backups of non-RAID volumes, of either the system partition or non-system partitions.

I have also noticed lately that TI does not play nice with other active processes. For example, the keyboard and mouse get locked out monentarily, and I get occasional alerts saying that the display driver was not responding. When the latter happens, windows suddenly disappear and then the screen goes black monentarily, and then it recovers. This started happening at the same time I began having problems backing up again. When I watch process activity in the task manager Acronis TI frequently goes 100%. When I watch activity in the resource monitor Acronis TI disk activity runs at a miserably slow but consistent 30 MB/sec, and then stops dead in its tracks at random points in the backup. The hangs occur even when there is no other activity going on in the system other than normal OS background activity.

This sucks! I have purchased four versions of TI since 8.0, and all of them have had serious issues. Stupid me, I still keep coming back for punishment.

I have an Intel X-25M on order and I need to be able to create some backup images so I can install the new SSD. I would appreciate it if you would solve this problem so I don't have to spend more money on an alternative solution.

Thanks.

P.S. Please don't ask me to run chkdsk -- I already have. All of my drives are brand new Veloci Raptors or Caviars, and I have run WDC extended diagnostics on all of them. BTW, I am running Windows 7 in case you did not catch that in the title.

Hello Daniel and Want-a-Refund,

I will do everything possible in order to resolve the issue you experience.

We are very sorry that installing SnapAPI drivers haven’t resolved the issue with the system hanging. In your cases each issue should be investigated separately that is why I may recommend you to gather the following diagnostic information and open a new support request:

1) Sysinfo:

- Open Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information;

- Choose the "Save" option in the "File" menu (or "Action" menu under Windows 2000), enter the "File name" and set the field "Save as type" to "System Information File (*.NFO)";

- Send us the saved file.

2) AcronisInfo utility as described in this article

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Well the final release is no better. Every screen takes its time to refresh (a cup of tea after each mouse click or key stroke)
Arconis must as a matter of extream urgency sort this program out.
I have been using Arconis V 11 and this is a good program. But 2010 build 6053 on Windows 7 64bit does not appear fit for purpose and unless a fully working program is released in the next few weeks then the purchase of a diffrent program will be required & that will be a pity.

Hello JohnG,

We are sorry for the inconvenience you experienced. We are aware of performance issue with the current build, and we have reported them to our Development. Next update will be released shortly, we will let you know as soon as we receive any useful information regarding the update.

Regards,

I'd like to add my problem - don't know if it really fits here:
BSOD 0x124 with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

Situation:
TIH 2010 Plus installed with 6053 update and SnapAPI update.

I backup my data files (documents etc.) 3 times a week without any problem.

I backup once in a week my system partition (Windows 7 itself with all programs = complete C:\).

When the full image of the system (C:\) is created the system crashes very often with BSOD 0x124. I already tried many hardware related things like replacement of RAM, running the system with BIOS fail safe defaults etc. When I reboot the system after the BSOD and restart the complete image it works very often and finishes w/o BSOD. But it often fails with mentioned BSOD when the planned task starts. Source partition is on a Intel X-25M SSD and the target drive for the .TIB file is a Seagate Barracuda LP 1TB. The rest of the system is working w/o flaws.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Cheers Dr. Jones

EDIT: Some details from a MiniDump whent the crash happens.

I have found a strange occurrence:
I am using TI2010 build 6053 on Windows 7 Home Premium.

If I reboot the computer, Acronis will run just once immediately after the reboot. Thereafter, on repeated attempts to run the program, nothing seems to happen.

I hope that this piece of informaqtion helps to to find a definitive resolution to this problem.

Shotbowl, I too use ATI2010 on a computer running Win 7 64 bit, and had the exact same occurrence. I got in touch with customer service via chat, and they had me go into taskmanager, and check for multiple instances of trueimage.exe running, and sure enough, there were multiple entries. I closed them out, exited task manager, was able to re-start ATI2010, and it has not repeated that behavior since, now when I close out ATI I can re-start it with no further issues.

Hello all,

Dr. Jones, thanks for dump output!

A stop 0x124 means the hardware has complained about something and Windows is passing along the message. The memory dump is devoid of pertinent info except for these two numbers, from your post:

Arg3: b2000040, High order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.
Arg4: 00000800, Low order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.

They're bitmasks and between them they make a 64-bit binary number:

10110010 00000000 00000000 01000000 00000000 00000000 00001000 00000000
^ bit "63", the "most significant" bit. The zero on the right end is bit "0".

To understand what each of the signifies in your instance, you might want to review chapter 14 of this Intel document.

Most support forums, including Microsoft own, pointed to bad sound card drivers conflicting with the video card drivers, mostly those from nVidia. After rolling back my video driver to the WHQL drivers in Vista, and disabling my sound, I still experienced STOP 0x124

Please check your BIOS for 32-Bit Disk Access for all your hard disks, it should be turned on.

Shotbowl, please follow the suggestion from Peter, it may help. Generally, it appears that product is trying to complete some scheduled task. If the above does not help, could you please perform the complete reinstallation of the product, recreate a tasks and check if the issue persists?

Please let me know the results.

Best regards,

Hello all,

We have released a new build of Acronis True Image Home 2010 # 7046. I would recommend you to update the software to the latest build. Please see Release notes for your information.

You can learn more on how to download the latest build here

Here are the articles available in our Knowledge base:

A little feedback after 1 year: have been using the 7053 release for quite some time. Happens less often but today it happened again.

As my HDD controllers work in AHCI mode BIOS dosn't even offer to manipulate the value for 32-Bit Disk Access.

And yes, I am using nvidia VGA drivers. I've been updating to the latest version each time a new one is released. There are no more driver updates for the onboard ADI 1988B sound chipset - i am already using the latest drivers.

But the nvidia drivers could really be part of the problem as i already experienced that they are quite crappy on W7 x64 compared to years of perfect working on XP x32.

I'll switch to ATI in next weeks. I also updated to the new ATIH Plus 2010 version from Feb 2011.
