How to stop 2015 looking for back up on different drive letter?
Can anyone help make 2015 usable.
I use web backup which works fine - I also have a USB hard drive back-up - which worked fine.
Unfortunately the drive letter for this external removable drive has changed since the back-up was made.
Upon inserting the drive Acronis pretends to be backing up - but cannot because it is looking at the wrong drive letter. It just sticks on calculating time remaining and will not allow any way of stopping it (the stop does not work at this stage) or adjusting the drive letter.
I have tried stopping the back-up many times but it does not react.
This effectively makes the programme unable to work - the cloud back-up works fine.
Is this a design flaw?
Is there something else I should be doing?
I should be able to do a full PC back-up to a removable drive and use this when plugged back into the PC - even if it has a different drive letter.
I would welcome any comments.
Thanks

Why not assign a permanent drive letter such as x or y or z to the enternal.
Then, edit the backup task and point the storage loctation to the folder on the storage disk with the new letter.
The change of drive letter happened most likely because of the insertion of a flash drive or camera or other usb device and windows assigned the next available letter to that insertion. By assigning a permanent letter, each time you insert that external into that specific computer, the assigned letter will be used by Windows.

In addition to Grover's suggestions make sure you plug the external drive into the same USB port, plugging into a different port each time causes Windows to reload the drivers and allocate them a different drive label under some circumstances.

Thank you for the answers and suggestions.
To get the PC operational again I had to shut down - crash the PC when it reached the "Waiting for Operations in Progress" stage and reboot.
After the reload of Acronis it gave me an option to browse to where the back-up is now stored (saying this could not be found) - I did this and it is now working fine.
BUT - if you are not at the PC when this option comes up, it goes away and Acronis then goes back into the loop described above and the ONLY way out is to crash the machine. I cannot find anyway to bring this option back up - this is the main issue causing the propblem.
The principle of setting the drive as a permanent drive - and plugging into the same port - are good suggestions - BUT this is a HOME edition and surely with a HOME edition Acronis should give the facility to Browse for the backup if the system is stuck searching a non-existant drive (I have lots of camera ports built in - and also use a printer with lots of ports - which is why the drive letter has changed from when I set it up). Most home users would just want to plug the back-up drive in when needed - the original port may well be used for another device - any well designed system should allow the back-up to be pointed to that drive letter.
Many thanks for the comments, great to get such quick feedback - I appreciate the work-arounds - I hope Acronis will take notice and resolve what is, in my opinion, a defective interface by not allowing to browse when the system is attempting to access a drive letter that does not have any media attached.
Thankfully it is operational again now.

Hi GroverH
Thanks for your suggestion - do you have the equivalent guide to setting the storage location in 2015 - I can see how in 2014 but cannot find an equivalent setting in 2015 - I am perhaps missing the obvious.
Many thanks
