Acronis True Image Home 2010 - backup-files don't created under selected target directory

Thread needs solution

Hi, I'm now using Acronis True Image Home 2010 (upgraded from previous version). By making a new backup and chose a destination drive like N: or any other valid drive on my computer the files are always stored in C:\...\documents\my virtual pc's. This looks like a issue when using Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 SP1 and True Image Home 2010. It's of interest to know that the logfile which is written from Acronis True Image Home 2010 tells me that the files are placed correctly in the chosen directory (see attachment). When investigating the destination-directory i don't find the backup files, they are still created under C:\...\documents\my virtual pc's. I've tried this several times - also with acronis secure zone and other destination drives - with same result. I'm using VISTA 32-BIT-Edition as operating system. Can you help me out and solve this issue? Thanks in Advance. Kind Regards Chris

Hello Christian,

I will do everything possible in order to resolve the issue you experience.

First of all please make sure that you are using the latest build of the program. Check it in Help -> About. You can always download the latest build of the program from your account under Registered Products.

In order to solve the issue please do the following. Please do the following:

- Download the http://www.acronis.com/files/support/schedmgr.exe file ;

- Start the Command Prompt from Start -> Programs -> Accessories menu;

- Run the following commands in the folder you saved the file to:

schedmgr task zap

schedmgr service stop

schedmgr service uninstall

schedmgr service install

schedmgr service start

This should delete all the scheduled tasks on the PC. You should manage your scheduled tasks from the scratch.

Also pease make sure that Acronis Scheduler2 Service (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services) Startup Type is set to Automatic. Otherwise, please set it to Automatic yourself and reboot your computer.

As workaround create Acronis bootable disc and create backup using it. Let me know the results.

If the issue still persists in order to investigate the issue uninstall Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 temporarily and see if it’s the case.

Let us know if the issue is resolved. We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

If you have any questions concerning Acronis software I'm always ready to help you.

Hi Dmitry,

thanks for the reply.

i've installed now the newest build 6053, then deleted all the scheduled tasks with the tool "schedmgr.exe". Then checked if service "Acronis Scheduler2 Service" was running and activated. It was already in correct state.

Also i've uninstalled the MS Virtual PC RC 1 to testing out if this was the problem.

Then tried again to make a backup with same result. The backup don't go to the choosen directory. It goes again to the directory "My virtual pc's" or in german "Eigene virtuelle Computer".

What i've done later then is to make a workaround ready which renames the directory "Eigene virtuelle Computer" before backup-start and later back. Then Acronis True Image don't find the location and give me the opportunity to choose manually the location. Then it works and saves the backup-files to the wanted localization.
By making then an incremental backup it works too without trying to save the files in wrong directory, means here i don't have this kind of problem - probably due the backup location is already in use from main backup before.

Further problem:
Additionally i've noticed that when i've used the Acronis True Image and then closed the main window the process itself still resists as open task in task-manager. Then when i start the program again it don't comes up and generates a second task process. Only when i kill then this processes i'm enabled to startup the Acronis True Image again.

If any further informations needed please let me know.

Kindly Regards
Christian

Hello Christian,

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

I'll surely help you with the issue, but first could you please create a screen shots with your backup settings (i.e. where you choose to save the archives) and attach it to your reply to this thread?

Additionally, could you please collect AcronisInfo output as described at this KB article and attach it also?

Regarding the second issue: our developers are already aware of this one and the fix will be available in the next official build of the software. Unfortunately, I can't tell you the exact time frame of the new release.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hi Ilya,

thanks again for the reply of the open issue. First i've attached now the wanted screenshot with the settings i'm using for backup-locations.

Next Question i'm not sure which kind of log was meant. You said "AcronisInfo output" and i don't find any hint in the given responses before. If it was the log generated due backup-processing i've saved now the output messages to a logfile and attached it additionally, else please describe in detail which kind of information is needed.

Regards
Christian

Hello Christian,

Sorry for unclear instructions!

Let me provide you with the details on how to collect the file:

- Download the file;
- Run the downloaded file
The gathered information will be put in adv_report.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.
Running AcronisInfo may take up to 5 minutes.

Then please attach the file created to your answer in this thread.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hi Alexander,

Hello Christian,

Thank you for your cooperation!

Unfortunately, provided Windows system information file (it's a part of the archive you sent) has been corrupted.

Could you please do the following?

- Open Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information;
- Select System Information;
- In File (or Action) menu choose Save...
- Select Save as type: "Version 5.0/6.0 System Information File(*.NFO)";
- Send us the file created.

Also, I would appreciate if you provide us with the exact step-by-step sequence of actions, so we can forward this case to our QA for reproducing.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Hi Alexander,

the system information-report is now collected and attached.

the step by step-informations to do a incremental backup for the first time:

They're partly in German due i'm using the german client:

Call "Assistent zur Datensicherung"

- Choose "Backup von Laufwerken und Partitionen"
- Choose "Backup-Quellen" - mark all drives for backup
(without Sector for Sector-Backup)

Backup-Location:
- Choose "Neues Backup-Archiv erstellen"
- Use Backup-Location in Format: N:\Acronis-Backup (NEU-2)\System_D_F_C_G_E_J_O_K_L_@date@.tib

Backup-Ausführung:
Startup Backup by pressing button "Weiter".
After a minute it begins to write in the wrong directory "C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Eigene virtuelle Computer".

Used options:
Ohne Planung
Inkrementelles Backup
Dateifilter nur auf *.tib gelegt
Komprimierungsrate: Maximum
Backup-Priorität: Niedrig
Schreibgeschwindigkeit: Maximum
Grenze für freien Platz: 10GB
Keine Email-Benachrichtigung
Aufteilung des Archivs automatisch
Fehlerbehandlung: keine Punkte ausgewählt
Keine Backup-Validierung gewählt
Backup-Konsolidation nicht gewählt
Archiv-Komment: Task-Name: System_D_F_C_G_E_J_O_K_L

Additional Informations:
By using the existing Task and modify the backup-settings it works correctly and the choosen location
which was in use before is used then again.
This also works when i wan't to make a new backup-file.
So the only problem is when make a completely new task - then choose the backup location and start the
backup it writes to the wrong directory "C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Eigene virtuelle Computer".

By renaming the directory "Eigene virtuelle computer" Acronis True Image fails to write in this
directory. Then i choose the correct directory. Then it works. All repeatly tasks later done with
existing task don't cause this problem again.
When i make a clone of the existing backup-task this works also correctly.

Christian
