Looking for a reliable and TESTED backup scheme
Hello,
I have been using True Image since before it had years instead of numbers :)
Unfortunately, in TI 2013 and 2014, I have been in situations where my backups are validated by Acronis in windows, yet when I use the boot disk to restore the backups, I am told that the backups are not valid.
This has happened 2 out of 2 times I have tested it, so I am really tempted to give Acronis the boot, but I want to try one more time.
I usually make a full copy and then do incrementals to a degree and then restart with a new chain. Perhaps the number of incrementals needs to be reduced.
My backup drive isn't terribly larger than my data drives, so I have to keep that in mind.
I would like to know a weekly backup scheme that has been tested (ie: used to restore to a disk using the boot CD) successfully. We are talking about ~2.2 TB from 3 disks backing up to a 4TB drive.
Can anyone help?
Thank you,
Ben

Thank you GroverH, your guides are very good and you are always there to help.
I just want to confirm that any of these setups have been successfully used to restore a drive. I thought I had a good setup and verification worked, but then I couldn't restore anyway. So I am looking for something that has been /verified/. Can you attest to that?
Thank you,
Ben

Benjamin,
No one can give you guarantees or verificatation. This has been successful both for me and many others. Your hardware and the quality of your backup will deternmine whether it works for you and only way you will know is for yout to test a restore to a test disk.
Be sure your backup is a full and complete backup of all partitions--not just a backup of your single C partition.
My signature link 2-A illustrates (2014) the best type of backup (disk image)for use when wanting to create a new or replacement disk.

Hi Grover,
I find it hard to believe that the Windows version of Acronis can not possibly verify that a backup will work with the boot disk version of Acronis. I don't know how I can affect the "quality" of my backup, it's a binary thing, it either works or does not. Acronis has this fuzzy thing going where the verification passes but the use for restoration does not. Sorry, I'm really frustrated with Acronis.

And yes, I know how to do a disk backup. I've been using Acronis to successfully migrate systems to new hard drives for years. Acronis seems to have forgotten how to do its part.
edit to be more informative: but my normal disk backup with a string of incrementals is what I have been using and what has failed (on two separate machines), so I'm looking for tested and verified other backup setups.

Benjamin,
How many incrementals in the string? If many, try validating by choosing one of the early or older incrementals. Perhaps you have an inc which is bad but all prior inc may be ok.
When validating using the CD, I try to use the CD version which created the backup files in the first place.
My comment about the quality of the backup, I was referring to both the quality of the data but also the completeness of data. Some users make a backup of C only and on some computues, C is not the boot partition so some users have incomplete backups which will not recreate a new disk.
Really, the only way you will know is actual testing of your specific computer.
Acronis does offer a 30 day money backup guarantee beginning with date of purchase.

Ben,
Your posting is not in a Question and Answer type forum. You could get more assistance on your problems with your backups if you were to edit your very first posting and within that edit is the option to move this entire thread to a forum such as the
