Backup does not work from a command line

Thread needs solution

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I also have Windows XP using Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Workstation.

I have used a command file in the past with Windows XP which works fine. When I try to use the same command file with Windows 7 it does not work. Here is the contents of the command file.

Trueimagecmd /create /filename: "O:\Acronis Qrocket4\CDrive1.tib" /partition:1-1 /split:4300

In Windows 7 the file seems to execute but the DOS box closes and nothing happens.

Please help.

Jim

Hello Jim Qualizza,

Thank you very much for your message. I will certainly help you with this.

Can you try using the same command and remove the space between /filename: and the drive letter, that is - /filename:"O:.

Please remove number one from the backup name, and simply call it CDrive.tib.

Would you mind letting me know more about the O: drive? What type is it?

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi,

I tried the command line as you suggested and it still does not work. The "O" drive is a USB external hard drive (IDE).

Thanks,
Jim

Hello Jim Qualizza,

Thank you for getting back to me.

To localize the issue can you please try the following:

1. Try using the command file with the full path for the Trueimagecmd.exe, for example it will look something like this: C:\Program Files\Acronis etc. Let me know if it works.

2. Can you use the command prompt and use the same full path command that you use in the command file and tell me the result.

I will be waiting for your reply at your earliest convenience.

As a workaround, I can suggest to try the following solution from our Knowledge Base - Acronis Backup & Recovery 10: Running a Backup Task via a Shortcut.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,

I tried all of your suggestions and non of them work. Could this be some type of permissions issue? I tried the workaround you suggested and that does not work either.

Thanks,
Jim

Hello Jim Qualizza,

Thank you for replying. It could be a permissions issue. That is why if you can try opening the command prompt by right clicking on the shortcut and run it as administrator and after that issue the same command. At least this way, the window will not disappear and we will be able to see any errors that appear. If they do, please let me know. I have attached a screenshot for your convenience that shows this option.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,

I ran the command from the command prompt with administrator permission and it worked. What perplexes me is the fact that I am the administrator with my signon. So what needs to be done to fix this issue so it will run from a bat or command file?

Thanks,
Jim

Hello Jim Qualizza,

Thank you for replying.

Have you tried launching the command file as administrator? Do you get the same result?

You can also try disabling User Account Control in Windows 7 and see if this works.

Please be aware that our product is not responsible for separate batch files execution. It can just accept the file and run it, but we cannot guarantee that commands you have written will work. This situation reveals that any batch file does not function correctly in your system, so it appears to be a Microsoft issue. Could you please contact their support and let us know the results?

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
